Abstract

An object of the present invention is to provide an EL display device having a high operation performance and reliability.

The switching TFT 201 formed within a pixel has a multi-gate structure, which is a structure which imposes an importance on reduction of OFF current value. Further, the current control TFT 202 has a channel width wider than that of the switching TFT to make a structure appropriate for flowing electric current. Morever, the LDD region 33 of the current control TFT 202 is formed so as to overlap a portion of the gate electrode 35 to make a structure which imposes importance on prevention of hot carrier injection and reduction of OFF current value.

Claims

1. A semiconductor device comprising:

a first substrate;

an EL element over the first substrate; and

a second substrate over the EL element,

wherein the second substrate is bonded to the first substrate through an adhesive,

wherein the second glass substrate opposing the first substrate comprises a first thickness at a first region and a second thickness at a second region, the first region is adhered with the adhesive, and the second region is located inside the first region and the second region is depressed relative to the first region.

2. The semiconductor device according to claim 1, wherein the first substrate is a plastic substrate.

3. The semiconductor device according to claim 1, wherein the second substrate includes an organic resin.

4. The semiconductor device according to claim 1, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an organic EL material.

5. The semiconductor device according to claim 1, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an inorganic EL material.

6. The semiconductor device according to claim 1, the device further comprising:

a thin film transistor electrically connected to the EL element, over the first substrate;

an electrode electrically connected to the thin film transistor;

The semiconductor device according to claim 1, wherein the semiconductor device is incorporated into an electronic device selected from the group consisting of a video camera, a digital camera, a goggle type display, a car navigation system, a personal computer, a mobile computer, a mobile telephone, an electronic book, and an image playback device.

8. A semiconductor device comprising:

a first glass substrate;

an EL element over the first substrate; and

a second glass substrate over the EL element,

wherein the second substrate is bonded to the first substrate through an adhesive,

wherein the second glass substrate opposing the first substrate comprises a first thickness at a first region and a second thickness at a second region, the first region is adhered with the adhesive, and the second region is located inside the first region and depressed relative to the first region.

9. The semiconductor device according to claim 8, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an organic EL material.

10. The semiconductor device according to claim 8, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an inorganic EL material.

11. The semiconductor device according to claim 8, wherein the semiconductor device is incorporated into an electronic device selected from the group consisting of a video camera, a digital camera, a goggle type display, a car navigation system, a personal computer, a mobile computer, a mobile telephone, an electronic book, and an image playback device.

12. A semiconductor device comprising:

a first glass substrate;

an EL element over the first substrate;

a second glass substrate over the EL element; and

a drying agent provided between the EL element and the second substrate,

wherein the second substrate is bonded to the first substrate through an adhesive,

wherein the second glass substrate opposing the first substrate comprises a first thickness at a first region and a second thickness at a second region, the first region is adhered with the adhesive, and the second region is located inside the first region and depressed relative to the first region.

13. The semiconductor device according to claim 12, wherein the drying agent includes barium oxide.

14. The semiconductor device according to claim 12, wherein a pixel portion including the EL element is surrounded by the drying agent.

15. The semiconductor device according to claim 12, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an organic EL material.

16. The semiconductor device according to claim 12, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an inorganic EL material.

17. The semiconductor device according to claim 12, wherein the semiconductor device is incorporated into an electronic device selected from the group consisting of a video camera, a digital camera, a goggle type display, a car navigation system, a personal computer, a mobile computer, a mobile telephone, an electronic book, and an image playback device.

18. A semiconductor device comprising:

a first glass substrate;

an EL element over the first substrate, the EL element including a first electrode, a second electrode, and an EL layer between the first and second electrodes; and

a second glass substrate over the EL element,

wherein the second substrate is bonded to the first substrate through an adhesive,

wherein the second glass substrate opposing the first substrate comprises a first thickness at a first region and a second thickness at a second region, the first region is adhered with the adhesive, and the second region is located inside the first region and depressed relative to the first region,

wherein the first electrode includes a transparent conductive film.

19. The semiconductor device according to claim 18, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an organic EL material.

20. The semiconductor device according to claim 18, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an inorganic EL material.

21. The semiconductor device according to claim 18, wherein the semiconductor device is incorporated into an electronic device selected from the group consisting of a video camera, a digital camera, a goggle type display, a car navigation system, a personal computer, a mobile computer, a mobile telephone, an electronic book, and an image playback device.

22. A car audio system comprising:

a display device, the display device comprising;

a first substrate;

an EL element over the first substrate; and

a second substrate over the EL element,

wherein the second substrate is bonded to the first substrate through an adhesive,

wherein the second glass substrate opposing the first substrate comprises a first thickness at a first region and a second thickness at a second region, the first region is adhered with the adhesive, and the second region is located inside the first region and depressed relative to the first region.

23. The car audio system according to claim 22, wherein the first substrate is a plastic substrate.

24. The car audio system according to claim 22, wherein the second substrate includes an organic resin.

25. The car audio system according to claim 22, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an organic EL material.

26. The car audio system according to claim 22, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an inorganic EL material.

27. A car audio system comprising:

a display device, the display device comprising;

a first glass substrate;

an EL element over the first substrate; and

a second glass substrate over the EL element,

wherein the second substrate is bonded to the first substrate through an adhesive,

wherein the second glass substrate opposing the first substrate comprises a first thickness at a first region and a second thickness at a second region, the first region is adhered with the adhesive, and the second region is located inside the first region and depressed relative to the first region.

28. The car audio system according to claim 27, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an organic EL material.

29. The car audio system according to claim 27, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an inorganic EL material.

30. A car audio system comprising:

a display device, the display device comprising;

a first glass substrate;

an EL element over the first substrate;

a second glass substrate over the EL element; and

a drying agent provided between the EL element and the second substrate,

wherein the second substrate is bonded to the first substrate through an adhesive,

wherein the second glass substrate opposing the first substrate comprises a first thickness at a first region and a second thickness at a second region, the first region is adhered with the adhesive, and the second region is located inside the first region and depressed relative to the first region.

31. The car audio system according to claim 30, wherein the drying agent includes barium oxide.

32. The car audio system according to claim 30, wherein a pixel portion including the EL element is surrounded by the drying agent.

33. The car audio system according to claim 30, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an organic EL material.

34. The car audio system according to claim 30, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an inorganic EL material.

35. A car audio system comprising:

a display device, the display device comprising;

a first glass substrate;

an EL element over the first substrate, the EL element including a first electrode, a second electrode, and an EL layer between the first and second electrodes; and

a second glass substrate over the EL element,

wherein the second substrate is bonded to the first substrate through an adhesive,

wherein the second glass substrate opposing the first substrate comprises a first thickness at a first region and a second thickness at a second region, the first region is adhered with the adhesive, and the second region is located inside the first region and depressed relative to the first region,

wherein the first electrode includes a transparent conductive film.

36. The car audio system according to claim 35, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an organic EL material.

37. The car audio system according to claim 35, wherein the EL element comprises an EL layer containing an inorganic EL material.
