Abstract

A verification tool applies a set of rules to determine whether an application object is rule compliant when a condition associated with the object is met. The verification tool determines whether the object is associated with a rule compliant property value. If the property value does not comply with the rule, then the rule has been violated and an error message is issued. The rule corresponds to settings implemented by a developer on the component. Thus, the developer is informed when at least one property value associated with the object does not comply with the corresponding rule. Feedback is provided about which specific object is not rule compliant such that the component may be modified to be rule compliant.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for verifying rule compliance of an application object, comprising:

accessing the object, wherein the object provides an abstraction over raw generated content;

determining whether a condition associated with the object is met; and

determining whether the object complies with a rule in the abstraction when the condition is met;

issuing a message that the object does not comply with the rule when the object does not comply with the rule, wherein the message references the object; and

modifying the object to comply with the rule when the object does not comply with the rule.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising mapping the rule to the object.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising encapsulating the rule in the object.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein determining whether the object complies with a rule further comprises determining whether the object is associated with a rule-compliant property value.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising deriving a component from the object, wherein the component inherits the rule associated with the object.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 5, further comprising modifying the rule associated with the component such that the component is customized for a specific purpose.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising retrieving the rule from the object.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein modifying the object further comprises automatically modifying the object to be rule compliant based on information in the message.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein modifying the object further comprises modifying the object to be rule compliant in response to user input, wherein the user determines the input based on information in the message.

10. A system for verifying rule compliance of an application object, comprising:

an object in an application, wherein the object is associated with a condition; and

a verification tool that is arranged to;

access the object, wherein the object provides an abstraction over raw generated content,

determine whether the object complies with a rule when the condition is met,

issue a message that the object does not comply with the rule when the object does not comply with the rule, wherein the message references the object, and

modify the object to comply with the rule when the object does not comply with the rule.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the object is a component of a dynamically created web page.

12. The system of claim 10, wherein the object is one of:

a control, a tag, a form, and a web service element.

13. The system of claim 10, wherein the rule is a guideline for designing the application.

14. The system of claim 10, wherein the verification tool is further arranged to create a derived object from the object, wherein the derived object inherits the rule associated with the object.

15. The system of claim 10, wherein the rule is encapsulated in the object.

16. The system of claim 10, wherein the verification tool is further arranged to determine whether the object complies with the rule by determining whether the object is associated with a rule-compliant property value.

17. The system of claim 10, wherein the verification tool is further arranged to automatically modify the object to be rule compliant based on information in the message.

18. The system of claim 10, wherein the verification tool is further arranged to modify the object to be rule compliant in response to user input, wherein the user determines the input based on information in the message.

19. A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for verifying rule compliance of an application object, comprising:

accessing the object, wherein the object provides an abstraction over raw generated content;

determining whether a condition associated with the object is met;

determining whether the object complies with a rule when the condition is met, wherein the object complies with the rule when the object is associated with a rule-compliant property value; and

issuing a message that the object does not comply with the rule when the object does not comply with the rule, wherein the message references the object.

20. The computer-readable medium of claim 19, further comprising modifying the object to comply with the rule when the object does not comply with the rule.
