Abstract

A delivery system for fixation of an implant assembly having an intracorporeal device at a deployment site using an anchoring structure. This invention provides an implant assembly having a an anchor for fixation within a vessel. The anchoring structure adapted to be delivered via a catheter.

Claims

1. An implant assembly for releasing into a vessel at a location having a diameter D1 and for lodging in the vessel at a location having a diameter D2, the implant assembly comprising:

(a) an intracorporeal device; and

(b) an anchor comprising at least one wire member operatively associated with the intracorporeal device and adapted to contact the walls of the vessel, wherein the implant assembly has a diameter less than D1 but greater than or equal to D2.

2. The implant assembly of claim 1, wherein the intracorporeal device further comprises a pressure sensor.

3. The implant assembly of claim 1, wherein the anchor further comprises a wire having a double loop configuration.

4. The implant assembly of claim 1, wherein the anchor further comprises at least two wires extending radially from the intracorporeal device.

7. The implant assembly of claim 1, wherein the anchor further comprises at least two wires extending from the intracorporeal device and forming opposing loops.

8. The implant assembly of claim 1, wherein the wire member further comprises at least four loops.

10. The implant assembly of claim 1, wherein the intracorporeal device further comprises a coating and wherein the ends of the wire are inserted under the coating of the device to attach the wire to the device.

12. The implant assembly of claim 1, wherein the implant assembly is at least partially radiopaque.

13. The implant assembly of claim 12, wherein the implant assembly further comprises a radiopaque marker located at an anchor point.

15. A delivery system for deployment and fixation of an implant assembly in a human body, the system comprising:

(a) an implant assembly comprising;

(i) an intracorporeal device; and

(ii) an anchor adapted to fix the intracorporeal device at a deployment site within the body; and

(b) a delivery apparatus comprising;

(i) a body having a main lumen extending the length of the body and a second lumen, each lumen comprising an aperture in a side of the body;

(ii) a core wire for insertion into the main lumen; and

(iii) a tether wire for slidable insertion in the second lumen and adapted to retain the implant assembly on the outside of the delivery apparatus.

16. The delivery system of claim 15, wherein the intracorporeal device further comprises a pressure sensor.

17. The delivery system of claim 15, wherein the delivery apparatus comprises a catheter.

18. The delivery system of claim 15, wherein the anchor further comprises at least one wire member adapted to contact the walls of a vessel after deployment of the implant assembly.

19. The delivery system of claim 15, wherein the anchor further comprises a wire having a double loop configuration.

20. The delivery system of claim 15, wherein the anchor further comprises at least two wires extending radially from the intracorporeal device.

23. A method of deploying and fixing an implant assembly in a vessel, comprising:

(a) mounting an implant assembly on a delivery apparatus, the implant assembly comprising an intracorporeal device and an anchor, the delivery apparatus comprising means for retaining the implant assembly on the catheter;

(b) placing a vessel introducer in an access site;

(c) placing the catheter and implant assembly into the vessel introducer;

(d) navigating the catheter to a deployment site, the deployment site having a diameter;

(e) actuating the implant assembly retaining means to disengage the implant assembly;

(f) removing the catheter from the body;

(g) allowing the implant assembly to travel in the vessel and lodge at a second site in the vessel having a diameter smaller than the diameter at the deployment site.

24. The method of claim 23, further comprising rotating the catheter to orient the implant assembly in desired direction after navigating the catheter to a deployment site.

27. The method of claim 23, wherein the means for retaining the implant assembly on the catheter comprises a tether wire.

28. The method of claim 27, wherein the step of actuating the implant retaining means to disengage the implant assembly comprises sliding the tether wire proximally to disengage the implant assembly.

29. The method of claim 23, wherein the means for retaining the implant assembly on the catheter comprises a sheath telescopingly disposed over the catheter and implant assembly.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein the step of actuating the implant retaining means to disengage the implant assembly comprises sliding the sheath proximally to disengage the implant assembly.

31. A delivery system for deployment and fixation of an implant assembly in a human body, the system comprising:

(a) an implant assembly comprising;

(i) an intracorporeal device; and

(ii) an anchor adapted to fix the intracorporeal device at a deployment site within the body; and

(b) a delivery apparatus comprising;

(i) a body having a main lumen extending the length of the body and a second lumen, each lumen comprising an aperture in a side of the body;

(ii) a core wire for insertion into the main lumen; and

(iii) a sheath adapted to retain the implant assembly on the outside of the delivery apparatus.

32. The delivery system of claim 31, wherein the intracorporeal device further comprises a pressure sensor.

33. The delivery system of claim 31, wherein the delivery apparatus further comprises a catheter.

34. The delivery system of claim 31, wherein the anchor further comprises at least one wire member adapted to contact the walls of a vessel.

35. The delivery system of claim 31, wherein the anchor further comprises a wire having a double loop configuration.

36. The delivery system of claim 31, wherein the anchor further comprises at least two wires extending radially from the intracorporeal device.

37. An implant assembly for fixation in a vessel, the implant assembly comprising:

(a) an intracorporeal device, and

(b) an anchor comprising at least one wire member operatively associated with the device and adapted to contact the walls of the vessel,

wherein the implant assembly is operable to yield to the vessel wall at a deployment site, allowing the implant assembly to travel in the vessel and lodge at a second site in the vessel having a diameter smaller than the diameter at the deployment site.

38. The implant assembly of claim 37, wherein the intracorporeal device further comprises a pressure sensor.

39. The implant assembly of claim 37, wherein the anchor further comprises a wire having a double loop configuration.

40. The implant assembly of claim 37, wherein the anchor further comprises at least two wires extending radially from the intracorporeal device.

41. The implant assembly of claim 37, wherein the anchor further comprises at least two wires extending from the intracorporeal device and forming opposing loops.

42. The implant assembly of claim 37, wherein the wire member further comprises at least four loops.

43. The implant assembly of claim 37, wherein the intracorporeal device further comprises a coating and wherein the ends of the wire are inserted under the coating of the device to attach the wire to the device.

44. The implant assembly of claim 37, wherein the implant assembly is at least partially radiopaque.

45. The implant assembly of claim 37 wherein the implant assembly further comprises a radiopaque marker located at an anchor point.
