1. A method of designing a set of display elements, comprising:
- a) selecting a set of light-emitting elements, each light-emitting element of said set capable of emitting light of a respective selected wavelength band;
b) determining a preferred arrangement of said light-emitting elements, wherein said preferred arrangement specifies the position of light-emitting elements capable of emitting light of each of said selected wavelength bands relative to light emitting elements capable of emitting light of other of said selected wavelength bands; and
c) designing an attribute set for each said light-emitting element of said set of light-emitting elements, each said attribute set adapted to promote self-organization of said set of display elements according to said preferred arrangement.

11. A display element suitable for assembly into a multi-color display having a plurality of elements, comprising:
-
a) A light emitting element capable of emitting light in a respective range corresponding to one or more of the colors in response to a control signal; and
b) A carrier in which said light emitting element is housed, said carrier having defined shape and surface properties, the defined shape and surface properties being selected to preferentially locate the display element with respect to other display elements in a desired color pattern to form the multi-color display. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 34, 35, 36, 37)
