1. A patient monitor comprising:
- an input which receives a sensor signal indicative of light attenuated by body tissue; and
a processor which applies a plurality of first rules to identify potential pulses from within said sensor signal or from within signals derived from said sensor signal, the processor also applying a second plurality of rules to identify acceptable pulses from within said potential pulses, wherein said plurality of said second rules comprise at least one signal modeling rule more complex than said plurality of first rules.

10. A method of determining acceptable pulse rate information from a signal indicative of an amount of attenuation of light by body tissue, the method comprising:
-
comparing at least one signal model to a portion of a signal, the signal being indicative of an amount of attenuation of light by body tissue;
determining a value indicative of a difference from said comparison;
determining an appropriate threshold for comparison against said value, the appropriate threshold being one of a plurality of predetermined thresholds that varies based on a pulse rate; and
determining said portion of said signal is unacceptable when said value compares unfavorably to said appropriate threshold. - View Dependent Claims (11, 12, 13, 14, 15)
