Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention comprise systems, methods and devices for adjusting display light source levels for enhanced image display.

Claims

1. A method for determining a display source light reduction factor, said method comprising:

a) determining an image color channel percentile value; and

b) calculating a source light reduction factor that is proportional to a quotient, raised to a power, of said percentile value divided by a maximum value of said color channel.

2. A method as described in claim 1 wherein the proportion of said source light reduction factor to said ratio is a power factor.

3. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said source light reduction factor is limited to a maximum value.

4. A method as described in claim 1 wherein said source light reduction factor is proportional to:

5. A method for determining a display source light reduction factor, said method comprising:

a) determining a first image color channel percentile value for a first color channel;

b) determining a second image color channel percentile value for a second color channel;

c) selecting a maximum percentile value of said first percentile and said second percentile; and

d) calculating a source light reduction factor that is proportional to a quotient, raised to a power, of said maximum percentile value divided by a maximum value of said color channel.

6. A method as described in claim 5 wherein said power is substantially similar to a gamma value for said display.

7. A method as described in claim 5 wherein said source light reduction factor is limited to a maximum value.

8. An apparatus for determining a display source light reduction factor, said apparatus comprising:

a) a first color channel analyzer for determining a first image color channel percentile value for a first color channel;

b) a second color channel analyzer for determining a second image color channel percentile value for a second color channel;

c) a selector for selecting a maximum percentile value of said first percentile and said second percentile; and

d) a processor for calculating a source light reduction factor that is proportional to a quotient, raised to a power, of said maximum percentile value divided by a maximum value of said color channel.
