1. A method for lubricating an internal combustion engine, comprising supplying to said engine a lubricating composition comprising:

  • (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity;

    (b) about 1 to about 1000 parts per million by weight of titanium in the form of an oil-soluble titanium-containing material having a number average molecular weight of less than 20,000;

    (c) an antioxidant other than a Ti-containing antioxidant, and (d) a metal containing detergent other than a Ti-containing detergent.
