Abstract

An ablation device includes an electrode having an enclosed lumen, and a heat sink located within the lumen. An ablation device includes an elongated body, an electrode secured to the elongated body, and a heat sink connected to the electrode, wherein the heat sink is confined by the electrode and at least a portion of the elongated body. An ablation device includes an electrode, and a heat sink connected to the electrode, wherein the heat sink is not connected to a pump.

Claims

1. An ablation device, comprising:

an electrode having an enclosed lumen; and

a heat sink located within the lumen.

2. The ablation device of claim 1, wherein the heat sink comprises a liquid, a gel, gas, or a solid.

3. The ablation device of claim 1, wherein the electrode has a distal end that has a dome shape.

4. The ablation device of claim 1, wherein the electrode has an elongated body.

5. The ablation device of claim 1, wherein the electrode has a ring configuration.

6. The ablation device of claim 1, wherein the electrode has a sharp tip for piercing tissue.

7. The ablation device of claim 1, wherein the electrode has a wall and an opening through the wall, the opening in communication with the lumen, and is not coupled to a pump.

8. The ablation device of claim 1, wherein the heat sink is not connected to a pump.

9. The ablation device of claim 1, further comprising a temperature sensor secured to the electrode.

10. The ablation device of claim 1, wherein the heat sink is adapted for use in an open system.

11. The ablation device of claim 1, wherein the heat sink is adapted for use in a closed system.

12. An ablation device, comprising:

an elongated body;

an electrode secured to the elongated body; and

a heat sink connected to the electrode;

wherein the heat sink is confined by the electrode and at least a portion of the elongated body.

13. The ablation device of claim 12, wherein the heat sink is moveable in response to heat.

14. The ablation device of claim 12, wherein the heat sink comprises a liquid, a gel, gas, or a solid.

15. The ablation device of claim 12, wherein the electrode has a distal end that has a dome shape.

16. The ablation device of claim 12, wherein the electrode has an elongated body.

17. The ablation device of claim 12, wherein the electrode has a ring configuration.

18. The ablation device of claim 12, wherein the electrode has a sharp tip for piercing tissue.

19. The ablation device of claim 12, wherein the heat sink is not connected to a pump.

20. The ablation device of claim 12, further comprising a temperature sensor secured to the electrode.

21. An ablation device, comprising:

an electrode; and

a heat sink connected to the electrode;

wherein the heat sink is not connected to a pump.

22. The ablation device of claim 21, wherein the electrode has an enclosed lumen, and the heat sink is located within the lumen.

23. The ablation device of claim 22, wherein the electrode has a wall defining at least a portion of the lumen, and an opening through the wall.

24. The ablation device of claim 21, further comprising an elongated body, wherein the electrode is secured to the elongated body.

25. The ablation device of claim 24, wherein the heat sink is confined by the electrode and at least a portion of the elongated body.

26. The ablation device of claim 21, wherein the heat sink is moveable in response to heat.

27. The ablation device of claim 21, wherein the heat sink comprises a liquid, a gel, gas, or a solid.

28. The ablation device of claim 21, wherein the electrode has a distal end that has a dome shape.

29. The ablation device of claim 21,.wherein the electrode has an elongated body.

30. The ablation device of claim 21, wherein the electrode has a ring configuration.

31. The ablation device of claim 21, wherein the electrode has a sharp tip for piercing tissue.

32. The ablation device of claim 21, further comprising a temperature sensor secured to the electrode.
