Abstract

A method and system to process a selection of a browser back button at a client machine. The system receives a browser back button selection, associates the browser back button selection to a first user interface identifier, retrieves the first user interface based on the first user interface identifier, associates the first user interface identifier to a second user interface, and displays the second user interface responsive to selection of the browser back button.

Claims

1. A method to process a selection of a browser back button at a client machine, the method including:

at the client machine, receiving a browser back button selection;

at the client machine, associating the browser back button selection to a first user interface identifier;

at the client machine, retrieving the first user interface based on the first user interface identifier;

at the client machine, associating the first user interface identifier to a second user interface; and

at the client machine, displaying the second user interface responsive to selection of the browser back button.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first user interface is retrieved from at least one of a cache at the client machine and a remote server machine.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the associating the first user interface identifier includes monitoring whether a programmatic client retrieves the first user interface.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the monitoring is performed by a client application program that is executed by the programmatic client.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the displaying includes updating a single displayable area at a client machine that utilizes a plurality of displayable areas.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the first user interface is associated with a first displayable area at the client machine and the second user interface is associated with a second displayable area at the client machine, the second displayable area allocated visible area at the client machine.

7. The method of claim 4, wherein the programmatic client includes a browser, the first user interface identifier includes a universal resource locater and the client application program includes a script.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the second user interface includes selectable user interface elements that are processed by the client application program to update a second displayable area at the client machine.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein the first user interface is retrieved from at least one of a cache at the client machine and a remote server machine.

11. The system of claim 8, wherein the client application program monitors whether a programmatic client retrieves the first user interface.

12. The system of claim 10, wherein the client application program is executed by the programmatic client.

13. The system of claim 10, wherein the client application program updates a single displayable area at a client machine that utilizes a plurality of displayable areas.

14. The system of claim 8, wherein the first user interface is associated with a first displayable area at the client machine and the second user interface is associated with a second displayable area at the client machine, the second displayable area allocated visible area at the client machine.

15. The system of claim 4, wherein the programmatic client includes a browser, the first user interface identifier includes a universal resource locater and the client application program includes a script.

9. A system to process a selection of a browser back button at a client machine, the system including:

at the client machine, a programmatic client to receive a browser back button selection, associate the browser back button selection to a first user interface identifier and retrieve the first user interface based on the first user interface identifier; and

at the client machine, a client application program to associate the first user interface identifier to a second user interface and display the second user interface responsive to selection of the browser back button.

16. A machine readable medium storing a set of instructions that, when executed by a machine, cause the machine to:

receive a browser back button selection;

associate the browser back button selection to a first user interface identifier;

retrieve the first user interface based on the first user interface identifier;

associate the first user interface identifier to a second user interface; and

display the second user interface responsive to selection of the browser back button.

17. A system including:

at the client machine, a first means to receive a browser back button selection, associate the browser back button selection to a first user interface identifier and retrieve the first user interface based on the first user interface identifier; and

at the client machine, a second means to associate the first user interface identifier to a second user interface and display the second user interface responsive to selection of the browser back button.

18. A method to process a selection of a browser back button, the method including:

at a server machine, receiving a request for a user interface message that includes a client application program; and

at the server machine, communicating the user interface message that includes the client application program to the client machine, the client application associating a first user interface identifier to a second user interface and displaying the second user interface at the client machine responsive to a browser receiving a browser back button selection, associating the browser back button selection to a first user interface identifier and retrieving the first user interface based on the first user interface identifier.

19. A system to process a selection of a browser back button, the system including:

at a server machine, a receiving module to receive a request for a user interface message that includes a client application program; and

at the server machine, a communicating module to communicate the user interface message that includes the client application program to the client machine, the client application to associate a first user interface identifier to a second user interface and to display the second user interface at the client machine responsive to a browser that receives a browser back button selection, associates the browser back button selection to a first user interface identifier and retrieves the first user interface based on the first user interface identifier.

20. A machine readable medium storing a set of instructions that, when executed by a machine, cause the machine to:

receive a request for a user interface message that includes a client application program; and

communicate the user interface message that includes the client application program to the client machine, the client application to associate a first user interface identifier to a second user interface and to display the second user interface at the client machine responsive to a browser that receives a browser back button selection, associates the browser back button selection to a first user interface identifier and retrieves the first user interface based on the first user interface identifier.
