Abstract

A method for launching an interface with a remotely located electronic device. Specifically, a loader that is locally installed is launched. The loader is associated with an embedded application stored on a remote device. Communication is established with the remote device to access a first checksum value that is stored on the remote device. Thereafter, the first checksum value is compared against a second checksum value of a locally stored version of the embedded application. The locally stored version of the embedded application is launched when the first check value matches the second checksum value.

Claims

1. A method for launching an interface with an electronic device, comprising:

launching a loader that is locally installed, wherein said loader is associated with an embedded application stored on a remote device;

establishing communication with said remote device;

accessing a first checksum value of said embedded application that is stored on said remote device;

comparing said first checksum value of said embedded application with a second checksum value of a locally stored version of said embedded application; and

launching said locally stored version of said embedded application when said first checksum value matches said second checksum value.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said comparing said first checksum value further comprises:

comparing said first checksum value of said embedded application with a plurality of checksum values of a plurality of locally stored versions of said embedded application to determine if one of said plurality of checksum values as said second checksum value matches said first checksum value.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

before said launching a loader, establishing communication with said remote device that is associated with an embedded application through a browser window; and

locally installing said loader.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein said locally installing further comprises:

executing said loader independently of said browser window;

downloading said embedded application as said locally stored version of said embedded application; and

naming a filename of said locally stored version of said embedded application with a checksum, said second checksum value, of said embedded application.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein said comparing said first checksum value further comprises:

accessing a filename of said locally stored version of said embedded application to determine said second checksum value, wherein said filename comprises said second checksum value.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

downloading said embedded application from said remote device when said first checksum value does not equal said second checksum value;

storing said embedded application as said locally stored version; and

naming a filename of said locally stored version using said first checksum value, wherein said filename comprises said second checksum value.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein said remote device comprises a networking device.

9. A computer system comprising:

a bus; and

a computer-readable memory coupled to said processor and containing program instructions that, when executed, implement a method for launching an interface with an electronic device, comprising;

launching a loader that is locally installed, wherein said loader is associated with an embedded application stored on a remote device;

establishing communication with said remote device;

accessing a first checksum value of said embedded application that is stored on said remote device;

comparing said first checksum value of said embedded application with a second checksum value of a locally stored version of said embedded application; and

launching said locally stored version of said embedded application when said first checksum value matches said second checksum value.

10. The computer system of claim 9, wherein said comparing said first checksum value in said method further comprises:

comparing said first checksum value of said embedded application with a plurality of checksum values of a plurality of locally stored versions of said embedded application to determine if one of said plurality of checksum values as said second checksum value matches said first checksum value.

11. The computer system of claim 9, wherein said method further comprises:

establishing communication with said remote device that is associated with an embedded application through a browser window;

locally installing said loader.

executing said loader independently of said browser window;

downloading said embedded application as said locally stored version of said embedded application; and

naming a filename of said locally stored version of said embedded application with a checksum, said second checksum value, of said embedded application.

12. The computer system of claim 9, wherein said method further comprises:

downloading said embedded application from said remote device when said first checksum value does not equal said second checksum value;

storing said embedded application as said locally stored version; and

naming a filename of said locally stored version using said first checksum value, wherein said filename comprises said second checksum value.

13. A computer-readable medium comprising computer executable instructions for performing a method for launching an interface with an electronic device, comprising:

launching a loader that is locally installed, wherein said loader is associated with an embedded application stored on a remote device;

establishing communication with said remote device;

accessing a first checksum value of said embedded application that is stored on said remote device;

comparing said first checksum value of said embedded application with a second checksum value of a locally stored version of said embedded application; and

launching said locally stored version of said embedded application when said first checksum value matches said second checksum value.

14. The computer-readable medium of claim 13, wherein said instructions further comprises:

before said launching a loader, establishing communication with said remote device that is associated with an embedded application through a browser window; and

locally installing said loader.

15. The computer-readable medium of claim 14, wherein said locally installing in said instructions further comprises:

executing said loader independently of said browser window;

downloading said embedded application as said locally stored version of said embedded application; and

naming a filename of said locally stored version of said embedded application with a checksum, said second checksum value, of said embedded application.

16. The computer-readable medium of claim 14, wherein said instructions further comprises:

downloading said embedded application from said remote device when said first checksum value does not equal said second checksum value;

storing said embedded application as said locally stored version; and

naming a filename of said locally stored version using said first checksum value, wherein said filename comprises said second checksum value.

17. A system for launching an interface with an electronic device, comprising:

means for launching a loader that is locally installed, wherein said loader is associated with an embedded application stored on a remote device;

means for establishing communication with said remote device;

means for accessing a first checksum value of said embedded application that is stored on said remote device;

means for comparing said first checksum value of said embedded application with a second checksum value of a locally stored version of said embedded application; and

means for launching said locally stored version of said embedded application when said first checksum value matches said second checksum value.
