20. A communication node, comprising:
-
a network interface to a freespace optical communication link;
a control processor coupled to said network interface and configured to monitor transmission of data over said freespace optical communication link;
wherein said communication node is configured to disable transmission of data over said freespace optical communication link in response to detecting that a failure of said link lasts for longer than a first configurable timeout threshold. - View Dependent Claims (21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28)

29. A communication node, comprising:
-
a plurality of node heads, each of which is coupled to a corresponding communication link, and wherein each corresponding communication link includes a physical level and a second level, and wherein at least one corresponding communication link is a freespace optical communication link;
a node base coupled to each of said plurality of node heads, wherein said node base includes a control processor configured to monitor said physical level and said second level of each corresponding communication link, wherein monitoring of said second level of each corresponding communication link is usable to detect a content error in data transmitted over said corresponding communication link;
wherein said communication node is configured to disable transmission over a corresponding communication link based at least in part upon said monitoring of said physical level and said second level of said corresponding communication link. - View Dependent Claims (30, 31, 32, 33)
