Abstract

A system and method for obtaining ECG signals from an ambulatory patient are disclosed herein. The system is configured to be inexpensive, small, and robust for outpatient monitoring. The system is configured to be a low power consuming device. The system provides options for a variety of settings and real-time access to the ECG signals being recorded during the recording period.

Claims

1. A method for remote access of electrocardiogram (ECG) signals obtained in a portable ECG monitor, the method comprising:

selectively correcting an out-of-range ECG signal;

configuring notation data in response to a state of a notation switch;

radio frequency (RF) modulating the selectively corrected ECG signal and the notation data; and

transmitting an RF modulated data, wherein the RF modulated data comprises the selectively corrected ECG signal, notation data, and synchronization data.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the RF modulated data comprises checksum data.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein RF modulating includes RF modulating in accordance with signal transitions.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein RF modulating includes FM coding.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the synchronization data comprises at least one coding violations.

6. A system for monitoring and recording electrocardiogram (ECG) waveforms, comprising:

an analog-to-digital (A/D) modulator;

a radio frequency (RF) modulator coupled to the A/D modulator;

an antenna coupled to the RF modulator; and

a notation switch coupled to the RF modulator, wherein the RF modulator is configured to modulate multi-channel ECG data outputted from the A/D modulator simultaneously as the multi-channel ECG data is recorded.

7. The system of claim 6, comprising a memory coupled to each of the A/D modulator and the notation switch.

8. The system of claim 6, wherein notation data is generated by the notation switch and the RF modulator is configured to modulate the multi-channel ECG data and the notation data.

9. The system of claim 6, wherein the RF modulator is configured for FM coding.

10. The system of claim 6, wherein the modulated data comprises synchronization data and the multi-channel ECG data.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the synchronization data comprises coding violations and a preset coded sequence.

12. A portable electrocardiogram (ECG) monitor, comprising:

means for remotely providing ECG waveforms obtained from an ambulatory patient during a recording period; and

means for remotely configuring at least one operating parameter of the monitor.

13. The monitor of claim 12, wherein means for remotely providing comprises a radio frequency (RF) modulator coupled between an antenna and an analog-to-digital (A/D) modulator.

14. The monitor of claim 12, comprising:

means for detecting an out-of-range or near out-of-range condition associated with the ECG waveforms; and

means for correcting the detected out-of-range or near out-of-range condition associated with the ECG waveforms within a data sample time period.

15. The monitor of claim 12, wherein the means for remotely configuring receives a sampling rate at which the ECG waveforms are to be monitored via a radio frequency (RF) link.

16. An electrocardiogram (ECG) signal obtained from a portable ECG recorder, the signal comprising:

at least one short range wireless transmission modulation violation;

a first channel ECG data;

a second channel ECG data;

a notation switch condition data; and

an error check data.

17. The signal of claim 16, comprising a third channel ECG data.

18. The signal of claim 16, wherein the signal is remotely accessible from the portable ECG recorder a maximum distance of less than about 12 inches.

19. The signal of claim 16, wherein the signal is modulated for short range radio frequency (RF) transmission using FM coding modulation.

20. The ECG signal of claim 16, wherein the at least one short range wireless transmission modulator violation comprises a pair of modulation violations and at least one preset data bit.
