Abstract

The present invention is directed to an integrated on-line interactive forum that promotes exchange of information among clinical study sponsors, clinical study investigators, and potential clinical study subjects. The forum includes an investigator database that contains information suitable for identification of qualified investigators for clinical studies and a subject database that contains information suitable for identification of eligible subjects for clinical studies. An extranet is coupled to the investigator database and the subject database. The extranet allows sponsors and investigators to exchange securely documents required to start a clinical study. The forum also optionally includes one or more web pages that provide information describing clinical studies to potential clinical study subjects and permit potential clinical study subjects to register for inclusion in the subject database. A therapeutic incidence area database is also optionally integrated into the forum

Claims

1. A method of creating an on-line interactive forum in a secured environment comprising the steps of:

storing in a computer memory investigator information suitable for identifying qualified investigators for at least one clinical study;

storing in a computer memory subject information suitable for identifying eligible persons for said at least one clinical study; and

automatically determining, in accordance with permission information and the registration information, whether to provide a person or caregiver with notice of a given clinical study associated with a disease condition of interest to the person.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of automatically presenting a questionnaire associated with the given clinical study to the person or caregiver.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein said investigator information is stored in a first database and said subject information is stored in a second database.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of storing in a computer memory, sponsor information relating to at least one sponsor of said at least one clinical trial study.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein said investigator information is stored in a first database, said subject information is stored in a second database, and said sponsor information is stored in a third database.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein said investigator information comprises at least self-reported data provided by an investigator, data obtained from external sources, and data previously collected by the system.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein said subject information comprises at least demographic data relating to a subject and clinical data of the subject.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein said sponsor information comprises at least sponsor identification data and sponsor contact data.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of providing one or more web pages having information describing clinical studies to potential subjects.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of providing a therapeutic incidence area database having at least one of (i) incidence and (ii) prevalence of different disease conditions by geographic area.

11. A computer readable medium containing instructions for performing the steps of claim 1.

12. A method of identifying an investigator for a clinical study comprising the steps of:

providing a database for storing information about a plurality of investigators including prescription writing history with respect to a plurality of medications;

providing a database for storing information associating each of said plurality of medications with one or more disease conditions;

receiving a query relating to information about a selected disease condition; and

then

identifying an investigator for a clinical study based upon said query and said prescription writing history of the investigator.

13. A computer readable medium containing instructions for performing the steps of claim 12.

14. A method of identifying an investigator for a clinical study comprising the steps of:

providing a database for storing information about a plurality of investigators including a history of laboratory procedure requests made by the investigator;

providing a database for storing information that associating each of said laboratory procedure requests with disease conditions;

receiving a query relating to information about a selected disease condition; and

then

identifying an investigator for a clinical study based upon said query and said laboratory procedure history of the investigator.

15. A computer readable medium containing instructions for performing the steps of claim 14.

16. A method of identifying a qualified investigator for a clinical study comprising the steps of:

providing a database for storing information about a plurality of investigators including a history of past participation of each investigator in clinical studies;

receiving a query relating to criteria about past clinical study participation; and

then

identifying a qualified investigator for a clinical study based upon said query.

17. A computer readable medium containing instructions for performing the steps of claim 16.

18. A method of creating an on-line interactive forum in a secured environment comprising the steps of:

storing in a computer memory investigator information suitable for identifying qualified investigators for at least one clinical study;

storing in a computer memory subject information suitable for identifying eligible persons for said at least one clinical study;

automatically presenting a questionnaire associated with the given clinical study to the person or caregiver; and

automatically determining, in accordance with said subject information, whether to provide a person or caregiver with notice of a given clinical study associated with a disease condition of interest to the person.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein said investigator information is stored in a first database and said subject information is stored in a second database.

20. The method of claim 18, further comprising the step of storing in a computer memory, sponsor information relating to at least one sponsor of said at least one clinical trial study.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein said sponsor information is stored in a third database.

22. A system comprising:

a computer memory for storing information indicating whether notice of one or more clinical studies associated with a particular disease condition is desired and registration information that indicates at least a geographic location, said disease condition of interest, and contact information, wherein said memory further stores computer instructions for presenting a web page questionnaire to a user; and

means for storing in said memory responses to a questionnaire.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein said responses are used to determine whether to provide said user with notice of a clinical study associated with said particular disease condition.

24. The system of claim 22, wherein said disease condition of interest is selected from a list provided to said user.

25. The system of claim 22, wherein said questionnaire is a pre-examination questionnaire.

26. The system of claim 25, wherein said pre-examination questionnaire is a screening questionnaire.

27. The system of claim 25, wherein said pre-examination questionnaire is a pre-screening questionnaire.

28. The system of claim 22, wherein said questionnaire is a pre-screening questionnaire.

29. The system of claim 22, wherein said questionnaire is a screening questionnaire.

30. The system of claim 29, wherein said screening questionnaire is protocol specific.

31. The system of claim 22, wherein said questionnaire is designed for screening for clinically appropriate persons.

32. The system of claim 22, wherein said questionnaire requests information regarding inclusion/exclusion criteria.
