1. A wireless communication system comprising a serving cell and a target cell for handing over a mobile terminal, wherein:

  • the serving cell comprises a processor, a memory for storing a first set of instructions, a transceiver and an antenna that are together configured to wirelessly send a message to the mobile terminal that includes information needed to receive a shared control channel of the target cell; and

    the target cell comprises a processor, a memory for storing a second set of instructions, a transceiver and an antenna that are together configured to schedule a data packet for transmission to the mobile terminal, to wirelessly send an identification of the mobile terminal over the shared control channel at a time defined by the information, and to wirelessly send the data packet to the mobile terminal over a shared data channel.
