Abstract

A method and system for maintaining isolated data in an application is disclosed which data to be selectively isolated until a data client orders the changes to be committed or abandoned. A computer-readable medium for constructing an application capable of localized data isolation is also disclosed. An application specification is used to determine which data entities should be isolated, and one or more transaction transforms are implemented for each data entity to be isolated.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for maintaining isolated data in an application comprising:

receiving data;

receiving a request to perform a control operation with respect to the data;

performing the control operation; and

updating status information.

2. A computer-implemented method as defined in claim 1, wherein said control operation is a commit.

3. A computer-implemented method as defined in claim 2, wherein processing the control operation further comprises using a modified two-phase concurrency model to commit the data.

4. A computer-implemented method as defined in claim 1, wherein said control operation is a refresh.

5. A computer-implemented method as defined in claim 4, further comprising refreshing data in a buffer.

6. A computer-implemented method as defined in claim 1, wherein said control operation is a synchronization.

7. A computer-implemented method as defined in claim 6, further comprising:

saving one or more changes to data in a buffer;

refreshing the data in a buffer; and

merging said one or more changes to data in a buffer.

8. A computer-implemented method as defined in claim 1, wherein said data and said request to perform a control operation are received from a data client.

9. A computer-implemented method as defined in claim 8, wherein said data client is a data entry dialog box.

10. A computer-implemented method as defined in claim 8, wherein said data client is a data view.

11. A computer readable medium accessible to a computing system and encoding a computer program for constructing an application capable of localized data isolation comprising:

receiving an application specification;

identifying data entities requiring isolation; and

implementing one or more transaction transforms.

12. A computer readable medium as defined in claim 11, wherein said computer program is implemented in an XAF environment.

13. A computer readable medium as defined in claim 12, further comprising using a phase and domain constraint model to preserve order of operations.

14. A computer readable medium as defined in claim 11, further comprising selecting a particular coherency protocol for each of the one or more transaction transforms.

15. A computer readable medium as defined in claim 11, wherein a plurality of transaction transforms may be interspersed with a plurality of data transforms.

16. A computer readable medium as defined in claim 15, wherein the results of one or more data transformations are stored within a transaction transform.

17. A system for data isolation in an application comprising:

a control module for performing control operations; and

a buffer module for storing buffered data and maintaining status information relating to the buffered data and control operations.

18. A system as defined in claim 17, further comprising a data transform module for performing data transformations.

19. A system as defined in claim 17, further comprising a policy module for controlling one or more control operation policies.
