Abstract

An invertebrate capturing device comprising a main body having an interior passage for connection with a vacuum source. The main body includes an invertebrate capturing opening and an invertebrate expulsion end for connection to a detachable container in which the invertebrates are captured. The detachable container is detached from the expulsion end, capped and thrown away with the captured invertebrate.

Claims

1. An invertebrate capturing device for connecting to a vacuum apparatus having a vacuum connection and for capturing invertebrates in a detachable container, the device comprising:

a main body having an interior passage and vacuum connecting end for connection with the vacuum connection, an invertebrate capturing opening and an invertebrate expulsion end for connection to the disposable container, the vacuum connecting end, the invertebrate capturing opening and the invertebrate expulsion end, all in fluid connection via the interior passage.

2. The device of claim 1 further including a deflector screen within the passage.

3. The device of claim 1 wherein the deflector screen is disposed at an acute angle with respect to the airflow within the passage.

4. The device of claim 1 further including a vacuum adjusting mechanism for adjusting the vacuum within the interior passage.

5. The device of claim 1 wherein the expulsion end is sized and tapered to frictionally engage an inner surface of the detachable container.

6. The device of claim 1 wherein the detachable container is a plastic soda bottle and the expulsion end is sized and tapered to frictionally engage an inner surface of an opening of the soda bottle.

8. The device of claim 4 wherein the detachable container is a plastic soda bottle.

9. The device of claim 8 wherein the plastic soda bottle is frictionally attached to the main body.

10. The device of claim 9 wherein the main body includes an invertebrate expulsion end sized and tapered to frictionally engage the plastic soda bottle.

11. The device of claim 4 wherein the detachable container is frictionally attached to the main body.

12. The device of claim 11 wherein the main body includes an invertebrate expulsion end sized and tapered to frictionally engage the detachable container.

7. An invertebrate capturing device comprising:

a vacuum source;

a main body having an interior passage in which a vacuum is maintained and having an invertebrate capturing end; and

a detachable container detachably attached to the main body such that when invertebrate are collected and transported through the passage, such invertebrate are disposed within the detachable container.

13. The device of claim 7 and further including a deflector within the interior passage for deflecting invertebrate into the detachable container.

14. The device of claim 13 wherein the deflector is disposed at an acute angle with respect to the airflow within the interior passage.

15. The device of claim 7 and further including a vacuum adjusting mechanism located on the main body for adjusting the vacuum within the interior passage.

16. An invertebrate capturing device for connecting to a vacuum apparatus having a vacuum connection and for capturing invertebrates, the device comprising:

a main body having an interior passage and vacuum connecting end for connection with the vacuum connection, an invertebrate capturing opening and an invertebrate expulsion end for connection to the disposable container, the vacuum connecting end, the invertebrate capturing opening and the invertebrate expulsion end, all in fluid connection via the interior passage; and

a soda bottle for frictionally engaging the invertebrate expulsion end.

17. The device of claim 16 further including a deflector screen within the passage.

18. The device of claim 16 wherein the deflector screen is disposed at an acute angle with respect to the airflow within the passage.

19. The device of claim 16 further including a vacuum adjusting mechanism for adjusting the vacuum within the interior passage.

20. The device of claim 16 wherein the expulsion end is sized and tapered to frictionally engage an inner surface of the detachable container.

21. The device of claim 16 wherein the detachable container is a plastic soda bottle and the expulsion end is sized and tapered to frictionally engage an inner surface of an opening of the soda bottle.

22. The method of capturing an invertebrate comprising:

providing an invertebrate capturing device having an invertebrate capturing opening, an invertebrate expulsion end, a vacuum cleaner connection end, all in fluid connection through a passageway in the device;

attaching the vacuum connection end to a conventional vacuum cleaner;

attaching a soda bottle to the invertebrate expulsion end;

turning on the conventional vacuum cleaner; and

utilizing the capturing device to capture invertebrates.
