An electrochemical analyte sensor for measuring a concentration of an analyte in a host, the sensor comprising an electroactive surface and a membrane system disposed thereon, wherein the membrane system comprises an interference domain configured to resist passage therethrough of at least one interfering species, an enzyme domain configured to catalyze a reaction of the analyte with a co-reactant, and a resistance domain configured to control a flux of the analyte therethrough, wherein the resistance domain comprises a cellulosic polymer.
