Abstract

The present invention discloses a horizontal perspective workstation comprising at least two display surfaces, one being substantially horizontal for displaying 3D horizontal perspective images, and one being substantially vertical for text or conventional images such as 2D images, or central perspective images. The horizontal display surface is typically positioned directly in front of the user, and at a height of about a desktop surface so that the user can have about a 45° angle looking. The vertical display surface is also positioned in front of the user and preferably behind and above the horizontal display surface. The present invention prefers a stereoscopic polarized horizontal perspective display, together with a polarized vertical display, thus the two images of the stereoscopic horizontal perspective display are mutually exclusive so that each image can be seen by the only corresponding eye, and the image of the vertical display is halfway polarized to be seen by both eyes.

The horizontal perspective workstation can further comprise a binaural or 3D audio system to provide realistic sound simulation. The horizontal perspective workstation can also comprise various biofeedback devices such as brain wave, blood pressure, heart beat, respiration, perspiration, skin conductance, body temperature, muscle tension measurements and simulators for inputs and output with the users.

Claims

1. A method for 3-D horizontal perspective display, the horizontal perspective display comprising horizontal perspective images, the method comprising the steps of:

displaying a 3-D image on a substantially horizontal surface using horizontal perspective;

displaying a non-horizontal perspective image on a substantially vertical surface.

2. A method as in claim 1 further comprising the step of taking an input from the non-horizontal perspective image and providing output to the horizontal perspective display.

3. A method as in claim 1 further comprising the step of taking an input from the horizontal perspective image and providing output to the non-horizontal perspective display.

4. A method as in claim 1 further comprising a step of tracking a physical peripheral device to the 3-D image.

5. A method as in claim 4 wherein the peripheral device tracking comprises a step of triangulation or infrared tracking.

6. A method as in as in claim 1 wherein the horizontal perspective display is a stereoscopic horizontal perspective display using horizontal perspective to display a stereoscopic 3-D image.

7. A method as in as in claim 1 further comprising a step of automatic or manual eyepoint tracking for the horizontal perspective display.

8. A method as in as in claim 1 further comprising a step of zooming, rotating or moving the 3-D image.

9. A method as in as in claim 1 further comprising a step of modifying the display image or generating a different image.

10. A method as in as in claim 1 further comprising a step of projecting a 3-D sound to an user.

11. A method as in as in claim 1 further comprising a step of providing a biofeedback information to an user.

12. A method for stereoscopic 3-D horizontal perspective display, the stereoscopic horizontal perspective display comprising stereoscopic horizontal perspective images, the method comprising the steps of:

displaying a left polarized horizontal perspective image on a substantially horizontal surface, the left polarized image viewable only by a left eye of a viewer;

displaying a right polarized horizontal perspective image, the right polarized image viewable only by a right eye of the viewer,

wherein the left polarized image and the right polarized image are superimposed on each other;

displaying a third polarized non-horizontal perspective image on a substantially vertical surface, the third polarized image viewable by both left eye and right eye.

13. A method as in claim 12 wherein the images are linearly polarized with the left and right images forming a 90°

polarization to each other and the third image forming a substantially 45°

polarization to the left and right images.

14. A method as in claim 12 wherein the non-horizontal perspective display is a LCD display comprising a linearly polarization image, and the left and right images are also linearly polarized, forming a +45°

and a −

45°

polarization to the left and right images.

15. A method as in claim 12 further comprising a step of tracking a physical peripheral device to the 3-D image.

16. A method as in as in claim 12 further comprising a step of projecting a 3-D sound to an user.

17. A method as in as in claim 12 further comprising a step of providing a biofeedback information to an user.

18. A method for 3-D horizontal perspective display, the horizontal perspective display comprising horizontal perspective images, the method comprising the steps of:

displaying a rear projection horizontal perspective image on a substantially horizontal surface, the rear projection display comprising a diffuser for rear projection image display,

wherein the diffuser comprises an angle of diffusion between 30° and

90°

;

displaying a non-horizontal perspective image on a substantially vertical surface.

19. A method as in as in claim 18 further comprising a step of projecting a 3-D sound to an user.

20. A method as in as in claim 18 further comprising a step of providing a biofeedback information to an user.
