Abstract

The present invention relates to communicating control information in a mobile communication system, wherein the control information of a mobile terminal for scheduling an uplink channel may be notified to a network quickly with less power. The present invention comprises transmitting a data block on a first physical channel, wherein the data block comprises control information, and transmitting an indicator having a specific value on a second physical channel for indicating the transmission of the control information on the first physical channel.

Claims

1. A method for communicating control information in a mobile communication system, the method comprising:

transmitting a data block on a first physical channel, wherein the data block comprises control information; and

transmitting an indicator having a specific value on a second physical channel for indicating the transmission of the control information on the first physical channel.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the indicator is associated with the data block transmitted on the first physical channel.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the indicator indicates a size of the data block on the first physical channel.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the indicator is an enhanced transmit format combination indicator (E-TFCI).

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the specific value comprises an E-TFCI index equaling zero.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the first physical channel is an enhanced dedicated physical data channel (E-DPDCH).

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the second physical channel is an enhanced dedicated physical control channel (E-DPCCH).

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the data block is a MAC-e PDU.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the control information comprises scheduling information.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the scheduling information comprises at least one of:

highest priority logical channel identifier;

total E-DCH buffer status;

highest priority logical channel buffer status; and

mobile terminal power headroom.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the data block comprises only the control information.

12. A mobile terminal for communicating control information in a mobile communication system, the mobile terminal comprising:

a processor for processing control information to be transmitted and generating a data block; and

a transmitter controlled by the processor for transmitting the data block on a first physical channel, wherein the data block comprises the control information;

wherein the transmitter transmits an indicator having a specific value on a second physical channel for indicating the transmission of the control information on the first physical channel.

13. The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the indicator is associated with the data block transmitted on the first physical channel.

14. The mobile terminal of claim 13, wherein the indicator indicates a size of the data block on the first physical channel.

15. The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the indicator is an enhanced transmit format combination indicator (E-TFCI).

16. The mobile terminal of claim 15, wherein the specific value comprises an E-TFCI index equaling zero.

17. The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the first physical channel is an enhanced dedicated physical data channel (E-DPDCH).

18. The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the second physical channel is an enhanced dedicated physical control channel (E-DPCCH).

19. The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the data block is a MAC-e PDU.

20. The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the control information comprises scheduling information.

21. The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the scheduling information comprises at least one of:

highest priority logical channel identifier;

total E-DCH buffer status;

highest priority logical channel buffer status; and

mobile terminal power headroom.

22. The mobile terminal of claim 12, wherein the data block comprises only the control information.

23. A method for communicating control information in a mobile communication system, the method comprising:

determining whether a specific event has occurred;

transmitting an indicator for indicating a size of a data block transmitted on a physical channel if it is determined that the specific event has not occurred; and

transmitting the indicator with a specific value for indicating the specific event if it is determined that the specific event has occurred.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein the specific event occurs when the data block comprises only control information.

25. The method of claim 23, wherein the specific event occurs when data to be transmitted is received from an upper layer and no resources for the transmission of the data are available.

26. The method of claim 23, wherein the indicator is transmitted on a physical channel different from the physical channel through which the data block is transmitted.

27. The method of claim 26, wherein the indicator is transmitted through an enhanced data physical control channel (E-DPCCH).

28. The method of claim 23, wherein the indicator is an enhanced transmit format combination indicator (E-TFCI).

29. The method of claim 28, wherein the specific value comprises an E-TFCI index equaling zero.

30. The method of claim 23, wherein the data block is transmitted on an enhanced dedicated physical data channel (E-DPDCH).

31. The method of claim 23, wherein the data block is a MAC-e PDU.

32. The method of claim 23, wherein the control information comprises scheduling information.

33. The method of claim 32, wherein the scheduling information comprises at least one of:

highest priority logical channel identifier;

total E-DCH buffer status;

highest priority logical channel buffer status; and

mobile terminal power headroom.

34. A mobile terminal for communicating control information in a mobile communication system, the mobile terminal comprising:

a processor for determining whether a specific event has occurred and generating a data block; and

a transmitter controlled by the processor for transmitting an indicator for indicating a size of the data block transmitted on a physical channel if it is determined that the specific event has not occurred;

wherein the transmitter transmits the indicator with a specific value for indicating the specific event if it is determined that the specific event has occurred.

35. The mobile terminal of claim 34, wherein the specific event occurs when the data block comprises only control information.

36. The mobile terminal of claim 34, wherein the specific event occurs when the processor receives data to be transmitted from an upper layer and no resources for the transmission of the data are available.

37. The mobile terminal of claim 34, wherein the indicator is transmitted on a physical channel different from the physical channel through which the data block is transmitted.

38. The mobile terminal of claim 37, wherein the indicator is transmitted through an enhanced data physical control channel (E-DPCCH).

39. The mobile terminal of claim 34, wherein the indicator is an enhanced transmit format combination indicator (E-TFCI).

40. The mobile terminal of claim 39, wherein the specific value comprises an E-TFCI index equaling zero.

41. The mobile terminal of claim 34, wherein the data block is transmitted on an enhanced dedicated physical data channel (E-DPDCH).

42. The mobile terminal of claim 34, wherein the data block is a MAC-e PDU.

43. The mobile terminal of claim 34, wherein the control information comprises scheduling information.

44. The mobile terminal of claim 43, wherein the scheduling information comprises at least one of:

highest priority logical channel identifier;

total E-DCH buffer status;

highest priority logical channel buffer status; and

mobile terminal power headroom.
