Abstract

A system and method for converting byte code of a first type into byte code of a second type. Byte code of a first type and markup language code are received as inputs. The first byte code is converted into constituent byte code data elements that can comprise any logical unit or grouping of at least a portion of a software application. The markup language code is converted into constituent markup language data elements that can comprise individual markup language tags and references to data or functionality in the first byte code. The first byte code data elements and markup language data elements are mapped to data elements of a second byte code type. The second byte code data elements are assembled into a resulting second byte code.

Claims

1. A method of converting byte code of a first type and markup language into byte code of a second type, comprising the steps of:

a) receiving a first byte code, wherein said first byte code is of said first type and contains one or more data elements of said first byte code type;

b) receiving a markup language code, wherein said markup language code refers to at least one said data element in said first byte code; and

,

c) converting at least a portion of said first byte code and at least a portion of said markup language code into a second byte code of said second type.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said step of converting said first byte code and said markup language code into a second byte code additionally comprises the steps of:

converting said markup language code into an object graph, wherein said object graph refers to at least one data element defined in said first byte code; and

,

converting at least a portion of said object graph into said second byte code of said second type.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein said step of converting said markup language code into an object graph additionally comprises the steps of:

converting said markup language code into an intermediate graph structure, wherein said intermediate graph structure represents at least a portion of the structure of data in said markup language code; and

,

traversing said intermediate graph structure to generate said object graph.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein said step of converting said first byte code and said markup language code into a second byte code additionally comprises the steps of:

converting said first byte code into an intermediate data structure, wherein said intermediate data structure represents a syntactic structure of said first byte code; and

,

converting at least a portion of said intermediate data structure and at least said portion of said markup language code into said second code of said second type.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein said step of converting said first byte code and said markup language code into a second byte code additionally comprises the steps of:

converting said first byte code into one or more first data elements of said first byte code type;

mapping at least a portion of said first byte code data elements to one or more second data elements of said second byte code type;

converting said markup language code into one or more markup language data elements;

mapping at least a portion of said markup language data elements to one or more second data elements of said second byte code type; and

,

converting at least a portion of said second data elements into said second byte code.

The method of claim 5, wherein said step of mapping at least a portion of said markup language data elements to one or more second data elements of said second byte code type additionally comprises the step of referencing at least one markup language mapping library, wherein said markup language mapping library contains one or more instructions for mapping one of said markup language data elements to one or more said second data elements of said second byte code type.

The method of claim 6, wherein said step of mapping at least a portion of said first byte code data elements to one or more second data elements additionally comprises the step of referencing at least one byte code mapping library, wherein said byte code mapping library contains one or more instructions for mapping one of said first byte code data elements of said first type to one or more said second data elements of said second byte code type.

8. The method of claim 5, additionally comprising the steps of:

receiving a bridging byte code, wherein said bridging byte code is of said second type; and

,

inserting said bridging byte code into said second byte code.

9. The method of claim 5, wherein said first byte code data elements further comprise one or more Common Intermediate Language data elements and said second byte code data elements comprise one or more SWF data elements.

10. The method of claim 5, wherein said markup language data elements further comprise one or more XML data elements and said second byte code data elements comprise one or more SWF data elements.

11. The method of claim 5, wherein said markup language data elements further comprise one or more XAML data elements and said second byte code data elements comprise one or more SWF data elements.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein said markup language code comprises at least one of XML, XAML, or XUL language formats.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein said markup language code is of a second type and wherein said step of receiving a markup language code additionally comprises the steps of:

receiving a first markup language code of a first type, wherein said first markup language code contains said markup language code of a second type; and

,

extracting at least a portion of said markup language code of a second type from said first markup language code.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein said step of receiving a first byte code additionally comprises the steps of:

receiving said first markup language code of said first type, wherein said first markup language code contains said first byte code; and

,

extracting at least a portion of said first byte code from said first markup language code.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein said step of converting at least a portion of said first byte code and at least a portion of said markup language code into a second byte code additionally comprises the steps of:

converting at least a portion of said markup language code into a binary markup language code; and

,

converting at least a portion of said binary markup language code into said second byte code.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein said step of converting at least a portion of said first byte code and at least a portion of said markup language code into a second byte code additionally comprises the steps of:

converting at least a portion of said markup language code into a source code;

compiling at least a portion of said source code into a third byte code, wherein said third byte code comprises at least one of said first byte code type, said second byte code type, or a third byte code type; and

,

converting at least a portion of said third byte code into said second byte code.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein said source code comprises at least one of the Java programming language, Common Language Infrastructure programming language, or the ActionScript programming language source code formats.

18. The method of claim 1, additionally comprising the step of converting at least a portion of said markup language code into one or more media files.

19. The method of claim 18, additionally comprising the step of converting at least a portion of said first byte code into one or more said media files.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein at least one of said media files are image files comprising at least one of the Portable Network Graphics, Joint Photographic Experts Group, Graphics Interchange Format, or bitmap image file formats.

21. The method of claim 18, wherein at least one of said media files are sound files comprising at least one of the Audio Interchange File Format, MP3, WAVEform audio format, Windows Media Audio, Advanced Audio Coding, Ogg Vorbis, or Real Audio sound file formats.

22. The method of claim 18, wherein at least one of said media files are video files comprising at least one of the QuickTime, MPEG, RealVideo, Audio Video Interleave, or Windows Media Video video file formats.

23. The method of claim 1, wherein said first byte code type and said second byte code type are the same.

24. A method of converting source code and markup language code of a second type into byte code, comprising the steps of:

a) receiving a second markup language code, wherein said second markup language code is of said second type and further wherein said second markup language code is extracted as inline data from a first markup language code of a first markup language type;

b) receiving a source code, wherein said source code is extracted as inline data from said first markup language code; and

,

c) converting at least a portion of said source code and at least a portion of said second markup language code into a byte code.

25. A method of transmitting byte code, comprising the steps of:

a) receiving a byte code of a second type, wherein said second byte code is created by converting at least a portion of a first byte code of a first type and at least a portion of a markup language code into said second byte code, wherein said first byte code contains one or more data elements of said first byte code type, and further wherein said markup language code refers to at least one said data element in said first byte code; and

,

b) making said second byte code available for transmission across a network.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein said first byte code is converted into an intermediate data structure representing a syntactic structure of said first byte code, wherein said markup language code is converted into an object graph representing at least one data element defined in said first byte code, and further wherein at least a portion of said intermediate data structure and at least a portion of said object graph are converted into said second byte code of said second type.

27. A method of converting byte code of a first byte code type and markup language code of a first markup language type into markup language code of a second type, comprising the steps of:

a) receiving a first byte code, wherein said first byte code is of said first byte code type and contains one or more data elements of said first byte code type;

b) receiving a first markup language code, wherein said markup language code is of said first markup language type and refers to at least one said data element in said first byte code; and

,

c) converting at least a portion of said first byte code and at least a portion of said first markup language code into a second markup language of said second markup language type.

28. The method of claim 27, additionally comprising the step of converting at least a portion of said first byte code and at least a portion of said first markup language code into a second byte code of said second byte code type.

29. The method of claim 27, additionally comprising the step of converting at least a portion of said first byte code and at least a portion of said first markup language code into one or more source code files.

30. A computer program product comprising a computer useable medium having computer program logic recorded thereon for converting byte code of a first type and markup language into byte code of a second type, comprising:

a) computer program code logic configured to cause a processor to perform a method of receiving a first byte code, wherein said first byte code is of said first type and contains one or more data elements of said first byte code type;

b) computer program code logic configured to cause said processor to perform a method of receiving a markup language code, wherein said markup language code refers to at least one said data element in said first byte code; and

,

c) computer program code logic configured to convert at least a portion of said first byte code and at least a portion of said markup language code into a second byte code of said second type.

31. The computer program product of claim 30, wherein said computer program code logic configured to convert said first byte code and said markup language code into a second byte code additionally comprises:

computer program code logic configured to convert said markup language code into an object graph, wherein said object graph refers to at least one data element defined in said first byte code; and

,

computer program code logic configured to convert at least a portion of said object graph into said second byte code of said second type.

32. The computer program product of claim 31, wherein said computer program code logic configured to convert said markup language code into an object graph additionally comprises:

computer program code logic configured to convert said markup language code into an intermediate graph structure, wherein said intermediate graph structure represents at least a portion of the structure of data in said markup language code; and

,

computer program code logic configured to traverse said intermediate graph structure to generate said object graph.

33. The computer program product of claim 30, wherein said computer program code logic configured to convert said first byte code and said markup language code into a second byte code additionally comprises:

computer program code logic configured to convert said first byte code into one or more first data elements of said first byte code type;

computer program code logic configured to map at least a portion of said first byte code data elements to one or more second data elements of said second byte code type;

computer program code logic configured to convert said markup language code into one or more markup language data elements;

computer program code logic configured to map at least a portion of said markup language data elements to one or more second data elements of said second byte code type; and

,

computer program code logic configured to convert at least a portion of said second data elements into said second byte code.

The computer program product of claim 33, wherein said computer program code logic configured to map said markup language data elements to second data elements is further configured to reference at least one markup language mapping library, and wherein said markup language mapping library contains one or more instructions for mapping one of said markup language data elements to one or more said second data elements of said second byte code type.

35. The computer program product of claim 33, additionally comprising:

computer program code logic configured to cause said processor to perform a method of receiving a bridging byte code, wherein said bridging byte code is of said second type; and

,

computer program code logic configured to insert said bridging byte code into said second byte code.

36. The computer program product of claim 30, wherein said markup language code is of a second type and wherein said computer program code logic configured to cause said processor to perform a method of receiving a markup language code additionally comprises:

computer program code logic configured to cause said processor to perform a method of receiving a first markup language code of a first type, wherein said first markup language code contains said markup language code of a second type; and

,

computer program code logic configured to extract at least a portion of said markup language code of a second type from said first markup language code.

37. The computer program product of claim 30, wherein computer program code logic configured to convert at least a portion of said first byte code and at least a portion of said markup language code into a second byte code additionally comprises:

computer program code logic configured to convert at least a portion of said markup language code into a source code;

computer program code logic configured to compile at least a portion of said source code into a third byte code, wherein said third byte code comprises at least one of said first byte code type, said second byte code type, or a third byte code type; and

,

computer program code logic configured to convert at least a portion of said third byte code into said second byte code.

38. The computer program product of claim 30, additionally comprising computer program code logic configured to convert at least a portion of said markup language code into one or more media files.

39. The computer program product of claim 38, additionally comprising computer program code logic configured to convert at least a portion of said first byte code into one or more said media files.

40. A computer program product comprising a computer useable medium having computer program logic recorded thereon for converting byte code of a first byte code type and markup language code of a first markup language type into markup language code of a second type, comprising:

a) computer program code logic configured to cause a processor to perform a method of receiving a first byte code, wherein said first byte code is of said first byte code type and contains one or more data elements of said first byte code type;

b) computer program code logic configured to cause said processor to perform a method of receiving a first markup language code, wherein said markup language code is of said first markup language type and refers to at least one said data element in said first byte code; and

,

c) computer program code logic configured to convert at least a portion of said first byte code and at least a portion of said first markup language code into a second markup language of said second markup language type.

41. The computer program product of claim 40, additionally comprising computer program code logic configured to convert at least a portion of said first byte code and at least a portion of said first markup language code into a second byte code of said second byte code type.

42. The computer program product of claim 40, additionally comprising computer program code logic configured to convert at least a portion of said first byte code and at least a portion of said first markup language code into one or more source code files.

43. A byte code conversion system, comprising:

a) a computer system having a storage medium;

b) a processor, wherein said processor is configured to receive a first byte code of a first byte code type and configured to receive a markup language code referring to at one or more data elements of said first byte code; and

,

d) a byte code conversion program stored in said storage medium and susceptible to processing with the processor, said byte code conversion program configured to convert at least a portion of said first byte code and at least a portion of said markup language code into a second byte code of a second type.

44. The byte code conversion system of claim 43, wherein said byte code conversion program is further configured to convert said markup language code into an object graph and convert at least a portion of said object graph into said second byte code of said second type.

45. The byte code conversion system of claim 43, wherein said byte code conversion program is further configured to convert said first byte code into one or more first data elements of said first byte code, map at least a portion of said first byte code data elements to one or more second data elements of said second byte code type, convert said markup language code into one or more markup language data elements, map at least a portion of said markup language data elements to said one or more second data elements, and convert at least a portion of said second data elements into said second byte code.
