Abstract

Input processing limitations may be solved by placing multiple units in series, with each unit recording some portion of the incoming data. This requires the generation of simultaneous actions across units operating in series, with both the data recording and user command execution happening at the same point in the trace data stream.

Claims

1. A data recording apparatus comprising:

a plurality of data acquisition interfaces;

a plurality of data selectors connected to said interfaces;

a plurality of data recording channels connected to said data selectors;

a memory interface connected to said recording channels; and

a data memory connected to record the output of said memory interface.

2. The data recording apparatus of claim 1, wherein:

said plurality of data recording units include multiple data recording units disposed in series;

each data recording unit receives a complete trace data word; and

each data recording unit records a different, non-overlapping segment of the trace data word.

3. The data recording apparatus of claim 1, wherein:

said plurality of data recording units include multiple data recording units disposed in series;

each data recording unit receives a complete trace data word; and

each channel within said data recording units records a different segment of the trace data word.

4. The data recording apparatus of claim 1, wherein:

said data recording units are operable to synchronize the execution of user commands between said data recording units to ensure that command execution will occur at the same point in a data stream.

5. The data recording apparatus of claim 1, wherein:

said data recording units are operable to synchronize the execution of user commands between said data recording channels to ensure that command execution will occur at the same point in the data stream.

6. A method of trace recording comprising the steps of:

receiving a complete trace data word at a plurality of data recording units; and

recording a different, non-overlapping segment of the trace data word at each data recording unit.

7. The method of trace data recording of claim 6, further comprising:

receiving the complete trace data word at each data recording unit;

recording a different non-overlapping segment of the trace data word at each channel within said data recording units.

8. The method of trace data recording of claim 6, further comprising the step of:

synchronizing the execution of user commands between said data recording units to ensure that command execution will occur at the same point in the data stream.

9. The method of trace data recording of claim 6, further comprising the step of:

synchronizing the execution of user commands between the data recording channels to ensure that command execution will occur at the same point in the data stream.
