Abstract

The present invention provides a method of wireless communication using a mobile unit and first and second base stations. The method includes receiving, from the second base station, a notification of a switch of the first base station to the second base station. The method also includes providing at least one message to the second base station in response to receiving the notification.

Claims

1. A method of wireless communication using a mobile unit and at least a first and a second base station, the method comprising:

receiving, from the second base station, a notification of a switch of the first base station to the second base station; and

providing at least one message to the second base station in response to receiving the notification.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving the notification comprises receiving the notification in response to detecting a switch performed by the mobile unit.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein providing said at least one message comprises providing said at least one message substantially before receiving a notification of the switch from the first base station.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein providing said at least one message comprises providing at least one signaling message.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein providing said at least one signaling message comprises providing at least one Traffic Channel Assignment message.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein providing said at least one message comprises providing said at least one message to the mobile unit via the second base station.

7. The method of claim 1, comprising performing a switch from the first base station to the second base station.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein performing the switch comprises establishing a forward link between the second base station and the mobile unit.

9. The method of claim 8, comprising providing at least one data message over the forward link between the second base station and the mobile unit in response to performing the switch.

10. A method of wireless communication with first and second base stations, comprising:

switching the first base station to the second base station; and

receiving at least one message that is provided in response to at least one notification provided by the second base station.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein switching the first base station to the second base station comprises switching the first base station to the second base station based on a quality of service associated with the first base station.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein receiving said at least one message comprises receiving said at least one message substantially before a notification of the switch is provided by the first base station.

13. The method of claim 10, wherein receiving said at least one message comprises receiving at least one signaling message.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein receiving said at least one signaling message comprises receiving at least one Traffic Channel Assignment message.

15. The method of claim 10, comprising establishing a forward link with the second base station.

16. The method of claim 15, comprising receiving at least one data message over the forward link.
