Abstract

Implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery systems as well as related systems and methods are disclosed.

Claims

1. An implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system, comprising:

an outer member defining a distal end and having at least one layer, the at least one layer defining a first thickness at a first position proximal of the distal end and a second, smaller thickness at a second position closer to the distal end than the first position;

an inner member at least partially surrounded by the outer member; and

wherein,

the distal end of the outer member is disposed distal to the implantable medical endoprosthesis; and

the second position of the at least one layer is proximal to at least a portion of the implantable medical endoprosthesis.

2. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 1, wherein the first thickness is at least about 10% thicker than the second thickness.

3. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 2, wherein the first thickness is at least about 135 microns and the second thickness is about 115 microns or less.

4. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 1, wherein,

the outer member defines a first inner diameter (ID1) at a proximal position disposed proximal to the second position of the at least one layer;

and

the outer member defines a second, larger inner diameter (ID2) at a distal position disposed distal to the second position of the at least one layer.

5. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 4, wherein,

the outer member defines a first outer diameter (OD1) at the proximal position;

the outer member defines a second outer diameter (OD2) at the distal position; and

a ratio of a difference between ID2 and ID1 to a difference between OD2 and OD1 is greater than 1.

6. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 5, wherein the ratio is at least about 2.

7. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 6, wherein the ratio is at least about 3.25.

8. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 5, wherein the distal position of the outer member is surrounds the implantable medical endoprosthesis.

9. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 1, wherein a thickness of the inner member decreases from a first thickness at a first position proximal of a distal end of the inner member to a second, smaller thickness at a second position closer to the distal end of the inner member.

10. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 9, wherein an outer diameter defined by the inner member decreases from a first outer diameter at the first position of the inner member to a second outer diameter at the second position of the member position.

11. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 1, wherein the at least one layer of the outer member is an outer layer and the outer member further comprises an inner layer surrounded by the outer layer.

12. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 11, wherein the outer member further comprises an intermediate layer disposed between the outer and inner layers.

13. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 12, wherein the intermediate layer is a braid.

14. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 13, wherein the braid extends at least between the first and second positions of the outer member.

15. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 11, wherein the outer layer includes a distal outer layer and a proximal outer layer different from the distal outer layer, substantially all of the proximal outer layer being disposed proximal to the second position of the outer layer.

16. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 15, wherein the proximal outer layer is formed from a material having a higher durometer than a material from which the distal outer layer is formed.

17. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 15, wherein at least a portion of the proximal outer layer defines a thickness that decreases from the first thickness to a third thickness intermediate the first and second thicknesses.

18. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 1, wherein the implantable medical endoprosthesis is a self expanding stent.

19. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 1, wherein the second position is disposed proximal to the implantable medical endoprosthesis.

20. An implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system, comprising:

an outer member defining a distal end and having at least one layer, the at least one layer defining a first thickness at a first position proximal of the distal end and a second, smaller thickness at a second position closer to the distal end than the first position; and

an inner member at least partially surrounded by the outer member;

wherein,

the second position of the at least one layer is disposed at least about 70 mm proximal to the distal end of the outer member; and

the outer and inner members are configured so that an implantable medical endoprosthesis can be at least partially disposed therebetween.

21. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 20, wherein the second position of the at least one layer is disposed at least about 90 mm proximal to the distal end of the outer member.

22. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 20, wherein the first thickness is at least about 10% thicker than the second thickness.

23. An implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system, comprising:

an outer member defining a distal end and having at least one layer, the at least one layer defining;

a first outer diameter (OD1) at a first position proximal of the distal end;

a first inner diameter (ID1) at the first position of the at least one layer;

a second outer diameter (OD2) at a second position closer to the distal end than the first position; and

a second inner diameter (ID2) at the second position; and

an inner member at least partially surrounded by the outer member;

wherein,

the second position of the at least one layer is disposed at least about 70 mm proximal to the distal end of the outer member;

a ratio of a difference between ID2 and ID1 to a difference between OD2 and OD1 is greater than 1; and

the outer and inner members are configured so that an implantable medical endoprosthesis can be at least partially disposed therebetween.

24. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 23, wherein the ratio is at least 2.

25. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 24, wherein the ratio is at least 3.25.

26. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 23, further comprising an implantable medical endoprosthesis disposed between at least a portion of the outer and inner members, wherein the distal end of the outer member is disposed distal to more than about 50% of a length of the endoprosthesis and the second position is disposed proximal to substantially all of the length of the endoprosthesis.

27. The implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system of claim 26, wherein the second position is disposed proximal to all of the length of the endoprosthesis.

28. An implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system, comprising:

an outer member having a distal end and defining a first inner diameter at a first position proximal of the distal end and a second, larger inner diameter at a second position closer to the distal end than the first position; and

an inner member at least partially surrounded by the outer member, the inner member defining a first outer diameter at a position aligned with the first position of the outer member and a second, smaller outer diameter at a position aligned with the second position of the outer member; and

wherein,

the outer and inner members are configured so that an implantable medical endoprosthesis can be at least partially disposed therebetween.
