Touch-input active matrix display device
First Claim
1. An active matrix display device comprising a plurality of pixels arranged in a row and column array, each pixel comprising a pixel electrode to which data voltages can be supplied by an associated data conductor via a respective thin film transistor wherein at least a proportion of the pixels each further comprise a body which electrically connects the associated pixel electrode to another electrode in response to touch-input to the pixel, said connection being detectable via the associated data conductor.

Abstract
An active matrix display device having touch input functionality is provided. The device comprises a plurality of pixels arranged in a row and column array, each pixel comprising a pixel electrode (11) to which data voltages can be supplied by an associated data conductor (12) via a respective thin film transistor (13) having a drain terminal connected to the pixel electrode. The pixels each further comprise a body (30;70;80) which electrically connects the associated pixel electrode to another electrode (51;14) in response to touch-input to the pixel, the connection being detectable via the associated data conductor. The circuitry used to address the display can also be used to detect any touch-input to the display, including pressure-sensitive and optical touch-input. This advantageously eliminates the requirement for extra conductors to perform the touch-input detection.
