1. A method for multiplexing data for an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH), the method comprising:

  • determining a size of data associated with a serving grant;

    determining a size of data associated with non-scheduled grants by summing for each dedicated channel medium access control (MAC-d) flow with a size of its non-scheduled grant or its available data;

    determining a size associated with medium access control (MAC) header information for multiplexing onto a medium access control E-DCH (MAC-e) packet data unit (PDU);

    determining supported E-DCH transport format combinations (E-TFC);

    if a number of bits that are permitted to be transmitted exceeds a first sum of the determined serving grant size, the determined scheduling grant size and MAC header information;

    selecting a largest E-TFC that does not exceed the first sum; and

    multiplexing bits from the MAC-d flows and the MAC header information; and

    transmit the multiplexed bits using the selected E-TFC as a MAC-e PDU.
