Abstract

Various embodiments of the present inventions encompass a variety of methods and devices for attaching labels, tags, or identification devices to hot metals.

Claims

1. A high temperature resistant material comprising:

at least one layer of glass fabric material;

at least one layer of mica paper; and

a polymeric adhesive, said adhesive securing said glass fabric material to said mica paper.

2. The high temperature resistant material of claim 1, wherein said glass fabric material comprises glass cloth.

3. The high temperature resistant material of claim 1, wherein said polymeric adhesive comprises a silicone polymer.

4. The high temperature resistant material of claim 1, wherein said high temperature resistant material has a thickness of about 70 microns to about 200 microns.

5. The high temperature resistant material of claim 4, wherein said glass fabric material has a thickness of about 30 microns to about 100 microns and said mica paper has a thickness of about 40 microns to about 80 microns.

6. The high temperature resistant material of claim 1 wherein said polymeric adhesive is applied under pressure to secure said glass fabric material to said mica paper.

7. A high temperature resistant label for use in identifying hot metals comprising:

a high temperature resistant material comprising;

at least one layer of glass fabric material;

at least one layer of mica paper; and

a polymeric adhesive, said adhesive securing said glass fabric material to said mica paper, wherein said high temperature resistant material is formed to a desired size and shape;

an identification means applied to one side of said high temperature resistant material; and

a thin metal layer formed to the same size and shape as said high temperature resistant material, said thin metal layer is attached to the other side of said high temperature resistant material opposite said identification means.

8. The high temperature resistant label of claim 7, wherein said glass fabric material comprises glass cloth.

9. The high temperature resistant label of claim 7, wherein said polymeric adhesive comprises a silicone polymer.

10. The high temperature resistant label of claim 7, wherein said high temperature resistant material has a thickness of about 70 microns to about 200 microns.

11. The high temperature resistant label of claim 10, wherein said glass fabric material has a thickness of about 30 microns to about 100 microns and said mica paper has a thickness of about 40 microns to about 80 microns.

12. The high temperature resistant label of claim 7, wherein said polymeric adhesive is applied under pressure to secure said glass fabric material to said mica paper.

13. The high temperature resistant label of claim 7, wherein said identification means is selected from the group consisting of a bar code, a symbol, words, numbers, an alphanumeric combination, and an imprint.

14. The high temperature resistant label of claim 7, wherein said thin metal layer is selected from the group consisting of metal foil, aluminum, steel, copper, a metal alloy and magnets.

15. The high temperature resistant label of claim 7, wherein said high temperature resistant material is attached to said thin metal layer by a securing means, said securing means selected from the group consisting of mechanical fasteners, adhesive, epoxy, resin, welding, soldering, liquid metal and magnets.

16. The high temperature resistant label of claim 15, wherein said mechanical fasteners are selected from the group consisting of screws, nails, pins and nut and bolt assemblies.

17. The high temperature resistant label of claim 7, wherein one side of said label is directly applied to said hot metal by an attachment means.

18. The high temperature resistant label of claim 17, wherein said attachment means is provided by the melting of said thin metal layer onto one side of said hot metal.

19. The high temperature resistant label of claim 17, wherein said attachment means is provided by metal fasteners, which said metal fasteners act to secure said high temperature resistant material to said thin metal layer and protrude through said thin metal layer to contact and bond with said hot metal as said hot metal cools.

20. The high temperature resistant label of claim 17 wherein said attachment means is selected from the group consisting of metal fasteners, adhesive, welding, soldering, melting, liquid metal, epoxy, metal foil, lamination, resin and magnets.

21. The high temperature resistant label of claim 19 or 20, wherein said mechanical fasteners are selected from the group consisting of screws, nails, pins and nut and bolt assemblies.

22. A high temperature resistant label for use in identifying hot metals comprising:

a high temperature resistant material comprising;

at least one layer of glass fabric material;

at least one layer of mica paper; and

a polymeric adhesive, said adhesive securing said glass fabric material to said mica paper, wherein said high temperature resistant material is formed to a desired size and shape; and

an identification means applied to one side of said high temperature resistant material.

23. The high temperature resistant label of claim 22, wherein said glass fabric material comprises glass cloth.

24. The high temperature resistant label of claim 22, wherein said polymeric adhesive comprises a silicone polymer.

25. The high temperature resistant label of claim 22, wherein said high temperature resistant material has a thickness of about 70 microns to about 200 microns.

26. The high temperature resistant label of claim 25, wherein said glass fabric material has a thickness of about 30 microns to about 100 microns and said mica paper has a thickness of about 40 microns to about 80 microns.

27. The high temperature resistant label of claim 22, wherein said polymeric adhesive is applied under pressure to secure said glass fabric material to said mica paper.

28. The high temperature resistant label of claim 22, wherein said identification means is selected from the group consisting of a bar code, a symbol, words, numbers, an alphanumeric combination, and an imprint.

29. The high temperature resistant label of claim 22, wherein one side of said label is directly applied to said hot metal by an attachment means.

30. The high temperature resistant label of claim 29, wherein said attachment means is provided by metal fasteners, which said metal fasteners act to secure said label to said hot metal by contacting and binding with said hot metal as said hot metal cools.

31. The high temperature resistant label of claim 29, wherein said attachment means is selected from the group consisting of metal fasteners, adhesive welding, soldering, melting, liquid metal, epoxy, metal foil, lamination, resin and magnets.

32. The high temperature resistant label of claim 30 or 31, wherein said mechanical fasteners include screws, nails, pins and nut and bolt assemblies.

33. A high temperature resistant tag for use in identifying hot metals comprising:

a high temperature resistant material comprising;

at least one layer of glass fabric material;

at least one layer of mica paper; and

a polymeric adhesive, said adhesive securing said glass fabric material to said mica paper, wherein said high temperature resistant material is formed to a desired size and shape;

an identification means applied to one side of said high temperature resistant material; and

a thin metal layer formed to the same size and shape as said high temperature resistant material, said thin metal layer is attached to the other side of said high temperature resistant material opposite said identification means.

34. The high temperature resistant tag of claim 33, wherein said glass fabric material comprises glass cloth.

35. The high temperature resistant tag of claim 33, wherein said polymeric adhesive comprises a silicone polymer.

36. The high temperature resistant tag of claim 33, wherein said high temperature resistant material has a thickness of about 70 microns to about 200 microns.

37. The high temperature resistant tag of claim 36, wherein said glass fabric material has a thickness of about 30 microns to about 100 microns and said mica paper has a thickness of about 40 microns to about 80 microns.

38. The high temperature resistant tag of claim 33, wherein said polymeric adhesive is applied under pressure to secure said glass fabric material to said mica paper.

39. The high temperature resistant tag of claim 33, wherein said identification means is selected from the group consisting of a bar code, a symbol, words, numbers, an alphanumeric combination, and an imprint.

40. The high temperature resistant tag of claim 33, wherein said thin metal layer is selected from the group consisting of metal foil, aluminum, steel, copper, a metal alloy and magnets.

41. The high temperature resistant tag of claim 33, wherein said high temperature resistant material is attached to said thin metal layer by a securing means, said securing means selected from the group consisting of mechanical fasteners, adhesive, epoxy, resin, welding, soldering, liquid metal and magnets.

42. The high temperature resistant tag of claim 41, wherein said mechanical fasteners are selected from the group consisting of screws, nails, pins and nut and bolt assemblies.

43. The high temperature resistant tag of claim 33, also comprising a hanger for hanging said tag from said hot metal.

44. A high temperature resistant insulating material comprising:

at least two insulating layers formed under pressure into said high temperature resistant insulating material, wherein each one of said insulating layers comprises;

at least one layer of glass fabric material;

at least one layer of mica paper; and

a polymeric adhesive, said adhesive securing said glass fabric material to said mica paper.

45. A method of labeling hot metals comprising:

forming a high temperature resistant material to a desired size and shape;

applying an identification means to one side of said high temperature resistant material;

forming a thin metal layer to the same size and shape as said high temperature resistant material; and

attaching said thin metal layer to the other side of said high temperature resistant material opposite said identification means.

46. The method of claim 45 wherein said high temperature resistant material comprises:

at least one layer of glass fabric material;

at least one layer of mica paper; and

a polymeric adhesive, said adhesive securing said glass fabric material to said mica paper.

47. The method of claim 46, wherein said glass fabric material comprises glass cloth.

48. The method of claim 46, wherein said polymeric adhesive comprises a silicone polymer.

49. The method of claim 46, wherein said high temperature resistant material has a thickness of about 70 microns to about 200 microns.

50. The method of claim 49, wherein said glass fabric material has a thickness of about 30 microns to about 100 microns and said mica paper has a thickness of about 40 microns to about 80 microns.

51. The method of claim 46, wherein said polymeric adhesive is applied under pressure to secure said glass fabric material to said mica paper.

52. The method of claim 46, wherein said identification means is selected from the group consisting of a bar code, a symbol, words, numbers, an alphanumeric combination, and an imprint.

53. The method of claim 46, wherein said thin metal layer is selected from the group consisting of metal foil, aluminum, steel, copper, a metal alloy and magnets.

54. The method of claim 46, wherein said high temperature resistant material is attached to said thin metal layer by a securing means, said securing means selected from the group consisting of mechanical fasteners, adhesive, epoxy, resin, welding, soldering, liquid metal and magnets.

55. The method of claim 54, wherein said mechanical fasteners are selected from the group consisting of screws, nails, pins and nut and bolt assemblies.

56. The method of claim 46, wherein one side of said label is directly applied to said hot metal by an attachment means.

57. The method of claim 56, wherein said attachment means is provided by the melting of said thin metal layer onto one side of said hot metal.

58. The method of claim 56, wherein said attachment means is provided by metal fasteners, said metal fasteners acting to secure said high temperature resistant material to said thin metal layer and protruding through said thin metal layer to contact and bond with said hot metal as said hot metal cools.

59. The method of claim 56, wherein said attachment means is selected from the group consisting of metal fasteners, adhesive, welding, soldering, melting, liquid metal, epoxy, metal foil, lamination, resin and magnets.

60. The method of claim 58 or 59 wherein said mechanical fasteners are selected from the group consisting of screws, nails, pins and nut and bolt assemblies.

61. A method of labeling hot metals comprising:

forming a high temperature resistant material to a desired size and shape; and

applying an identification means to one side of said high temperature resistant material.

62. The method of claim 61, wherein said high temperature resistant material comprises:

at least one layer of glass fabric material;

at least one layer of mica paper; and

a polymeric adhesive, said adhesive securing said glass fabric material to said mica paper.

63. The method of claim 62, wherein said glass fabric material comprises glass cloth.

64. The method of claim 62, wherein said polymeric adhesive comprises a silicone polymer.

65. The method of claim 62, wherein said high temperature resistant material has a thickness of about 70 microns to about 200 microns.

66. The method of claim 65, wherein said glass fabric material has a thickness of about 30 microns to about 100 microns and said mica paper has a thickness of about 40 microns to about 80 microns.

67. The method of claim 62, wherein said polymeric adhesive is applied under pressure to secure said glass fabric material to said mica paper.

68. The method of claim 62, wherein said identification means is selected from the group consisting of a bar code, a symbol, words, numbers, an alphanumeric combination, and an imprint.

69. The method of claim 62, wherein one side of said label is directly applied to said hot metal by an attachment means.

70. The method of claim 69, wherein said attachment means is provided by metal fasteners, which said metal fasteners act to secure said label to said hot metal by contacting and binding with said hot metal as said hot metal cools.

71. The method of claim 69, wherein said attachment means is selected from the group consisting of metal fasteners, adhesive welding, soldering, melting, liquid metal, epoxy, metal foil, lamination, resin and magnets.

72. The method of claim 70 or 71, wherein said mechanical fasteners include screws, nails, pins and nut and bolt assemblies.

73. A method of tagging hot metals comprising:

forming a high temperature resistant material to a desired size and shape;

applying an identification means to one side of said high temperature resistant material;

forming a thin metal layer to the same size and shape as said high temperature resistant material; and

attaching said thin metal layer to the other side of said high temperature resistant material opposite said identification means.

74. The method of claim 73, wherein said high temperature resistant material comprises:

at least one layer of glass fabric material;

at least one layer of mica paper; and

a polymeric adhesive, said adhesive securing said glass fabric material to said mica paper.

75. The method of claim 74, wherein said glass fabric material comprises glass cloth.

76. The method of claim 74, wherein said polymeric adhesive comprises a silicone polymer.

77. The method of claim 74, wherein said high temperature resistant material has a thickness of about 70 microns to about 200 microns.

78. The method of claim 77, wherein said glass fabric material has a thickness of about 30 microns to about 100 microns and said mica paper has a thickness of about 40 microns to about 80 microns.

79. The method of claim 74, wherein said polymeric adhesive is applied under pressure to secure said glass fabric material to said mica paper.

80. The method of claim 74, wherein said identification means is selected from the group consisting of a bar code, a symbol, words, numbers, an alphanumeric combination, and an imprint.

81. The method of claim 74, wherein said thin metal layer is selected from the group consisting of metal foil, aluminum, steel, copper, a metal alloy and magnets.

82. The method of claim 74, wherein said high temperature resistant material is attached to said thin metal layer by a securing means, said securing means selected from the group consisting of mechanical fasteners, adhesive, epoxy, resin, welding, soldering, liquid metal and magnets.

83. The method of claim 82, wherein said mechanical fasteners are selected from the group consisting of screws, nails, pins and nut and bolt assemblies.

84. The method of claim 74, also comprising a hanger for hanging said tag from said hot metal.

85. A method for insulating, comprising lining a high temperature environment with a high temperature resistant material which comprises:

at least two insulating layers formed under pressure into said high temperature resistant insulating material, wherein one of said insulating layers comprises;

at least one layer of glass fabric material;

at least one layer of mica paper; and

a polymeric adhesive, said adhesive securing said glass fabric material to said mica paper.

86. A high temperature resistant tag for use in identifying hot metals comprising:

a high temperature resistant material comprising;

at least one layer of glass fabric material;

at least one layer of mica paper; and

a polymeric adhesive, said adhesive securing said glass fabric material to said mica paper, wherein said high temperature resistant material is formed to a desired size and shape; and

an identification means applied to one side of said high temperature resistant material.

87. A method of tagging hot metals comprising:

forming a high temperature resistant material to a desired size and shape; and

applying an identification means to one side of said high temperature resistant material.

88. The method of claim 87, wherein said high temperature resistant material comprises:

at least one layer of glass fabric material;

at least one layer of mica paper; and

a polymeric adhesive, said adhesive securing said glass fabric material to said mica paper.
