Abstract

Embodiments of methods and apparatus for providing information indicative of traffic delay of a wireless link are generally described herein. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

monitoring duration of traffic via a wireless link; and

generating histogram information indicative of delay associated with the wireless link.

2. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein monitoring duration of traffic via the wireless link comprises monitoring a plurality of transmit time intervals, and wherein each of the plurality of transmit time intervals is associated with one of a frame or a packet.

3. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein monitoring duration of traffic via the wireless link comprises monitoring duration of one or more of voice transmission, video transmission, or data transmission.

4. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein monitoring duration of traffic via the wireless link comprises monitoring the duration of traffic based on a measurement request from a communication node of a wireless communication network, and wherein the measurement request comprises information indicative of one or more of a measurement duration, a traffic identifier, a bin offset, a bin duration, a bin increment mode, or a number of bins.

A method as defined in claim 1, wherein generating the histogram information indicative of delay associated with the wireless link comprises identifying a plurality of bins corresponding to a plurality of delay intervals based on a bin increment mode, and wherein the bin increment mode comprises one of a linear increment mode or an exponential increment mode.

A method as defined in claim 1, wherein generating the histogram information indicative of delay associated with the wireless link comprises associating each of a plurality of transmit time intervals of the duration of traffic to one of a plurality of bins, and wherein each of the plurality of bins is associated with a delay interval.

7. A method as defined in claim 1, wherein generating the histogram information indicative of delay associated with the wireless link comprises generating information indicative of one of a maximum delay, a minimum delay, a mode delay, an average delay, or jitter associated with the wireless link.

8. A method as defined in claim 1 further comprising transmitting the histogram information to a communication node of a wireless communication network, and wherein the communication node comprises one of a station, an access point, or a mesh point.

9. An article of manufacture including content, which when accessed, causes a machine to:

monitor duration of traffic via a wireless link; and

generate histogram information indicative of delay associated with the wireless link.

10. An article of manufacture as defined in claim 9, wherein the content, when accessed, causes the machine to monitor duration of traffic via the wireless link by monitoring a plurality of transmit time intervals, and wherein each of the plurality of transmit time intervals is associated with one of a frame or a packet.

11. An article of manufacture as defined in claim 9, wherein the content, when accessed, causes the machine to monitor duration of traffic via the wireless link by monitoring duration of one or more of voice transmission, video transmission, or data transmission.

12. An article of manufacture as defined in claim 9, wherein the content, when accessed, causes the machine to monitor duration of traffic via the wireless link by monitoring the duration of traffic based on a measurement request from a communication node of a wireless communication network, and wherein the measurement request comprises information indicative of one or more of a measurement duration, a traffic identifier, a bin offset, a bin duration, a bin increment mode, or a number of bins.

13. An article of manufacture as defined in claim 9, wherein the content, when accessed, causes the machine to generate the histogram information indicative of delay associated with the wireless link by identifying a plurality of bins corresponding to a plurality of delay intervals based on a bin increment mode, and wherein the bin increment mode comprises one of a linear increment mode or an exponential increment mode.

14. An article of manufacture as defined in claim 9, wherein the content, when accessed, causes the machine to generate the histogram information indicative of delay associated with the wireless link by associating each of a plurality of transmit time intervals of the duration of traffic to one of a plurality of bins, and wherein each of the plurality of bins is associated with a delay interval.

15. An article of manufacture as defined in claim 9, wherein the content, when accessed, causes the machine to generate the histogram information indicative of delay associated with the wireless link by generating information indicative of one of a maximum delay, a minimum delay, a mode delay, an average delay, or jitter associated with the wireless link.

16. An article of manufacture as defined in claim 9, wherein the content, when accessed, causes the machine to transmit the histogram information to a communication node of a wireless communication network, and wherein the communication node comprises one of a station, an access point, or a mesh point.

17. An apparatus comprising:

a monitor to monitor duration of traffic via a wireless link; and

a generator coupled to the monitor to generate histogram information indicative of delay associated with the wireless link.

18. An apparatus as defined in claim 17, wherein the sensor is configured to monitor a plurality of transmit time intervals, and wherein each of the plurality of transmit time intervals is associated with one of a frame or a packet.

19. An apparatus as defined in claim 17, wherein the sensor is configured to monitor duration of one or more of voice transmission, video transmission, or data transmission.

20. An apparatus as defined in claim 17 further comprising a receiver to receive a measurement request from a communication node of a wireless communication network, wherein the sensor is configured to monitor the duration of traffic based on the measurement request, and wherein the measurement request comprises information indicative of one or more of a measurement duration, a traffic identifier, a bin offset, a bin duration, a bin increment mode, or a number of bins.

21. An apparatus as defined in claim 17, wherein the generator is configured to identify a plurality of bins corresponding to a plurality of delay intervals based on a bin increment mode, and wherein the bin increment mode comprises one of a linear increment mode or an exponential increment mode.

22. An apparatus as defined in claim 17, wherein the generator is configured to associate each of a plurality of transmit time intervals of the duration of traffic to one of a plurality of bins, and wherein each of the plurality of bins is associated with a delay interval.

23. An apparatus as defined in claim 17, wherein the generator is configured to generate information indicative of one of a maximum delay, a minimum delay, a mode delay, an average delay, or jitter associated with the wireless link

24. An apparatus as defined in claim 17, wherein the apparatus comprises one or more of a laptop computer, a handheld computer, a tablet computer, a personal data assistant, a wireless telephone, a pager, an audio/video player, a game device, a navigation device, an access point, or a mesh point.

25. A system comprising:

a flash memory; and

a processor coupled to the flash memory to monitor duration of traffic via a wireless link, and to generate histogram information indicative of delay associated with the wireless link.

26. A system as defined in claim 25, wherein the processor is configured to monitor a plurality of transmit time intervals, and wherein each of the plurality of transmit time intervals is associated with one of a frame or a packet.

A system as defined in claim 25, wherein the processor is configured to monitor the duration of traffic based on a measurement request from a communication node of a wireless communication network, and wherein the measurement request comprises information indicative of one or more of a measurement duration, a traffic identifier, a bin offset, a bin duration, a bin increment mode, or a number of bins.

28. A system as defined in claim 25, wherein the processor is configured to identify a plurality of bins corresponding to a plurality of delay intervals based on a bin increment mode, and wherein the bin increment mode comprises one of a linear increment mode or an exponential increment mode.

29. A system as defined in claim 25, wherein the processor is configured to associate each of a plurality of transmit time intervals of the duration of traffic to one of a plurality of bins, and wherein each of the plurality of bins is associated with a delay interval.

30. A system as defined in claim 25, wherein the processor is configured to generate information indicative of one of a maximum delay, a minimum delay, a mode delay, an average delay, or jitter associated with the wireless link.
