Abstract

A method is provided for paging a mobile station (40) served by a wireless telecommunications network (A). The method includes: using a plurality of band-classes to selectively communicate with the mobile station (40); remembering which one of the plurality of band-classes was last used to communicate with the mobile station (40); and, selectively paging the mobile station (40) over the wireless telecommunications network (A) when the mobile station (40) is being sought, the paging covering at least the remembered band-class for the mobile station (40) being paged.

Claims

1. A method for paging a mobile station served by a wireless telecommunications network, the method comprising:

(a) using a plurality of band-classes to selectively communicate with the mobile station;

(b) remembering which one of the plurality of band-classes was last used to communicate with the mobile station; and

,

(c) selectively paging the mobile station over the wireless telecommunications network when the mobile station is being sought, said paging covering at least the remembered band-class for the mobile station being paged.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the paging covers less than all of the plurality of band-classes.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of band-classes includes a first band-class and a second band-class.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the first band class operates at about 850 MHz and the second band-class operates at about 1900 MHz.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

repeating step (a) through (c) for a plurality of mobile stations;

assigning a priority level to each page which is to be executed; and

,

executing the pages in order according to their assigned priority level.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein a plurality of pages remain pending for a period of time prior to their execution, said method further comprises:

entering the pending pages in a queue, said pending pages being order therein according to their assigned priority level.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein multiple pages are selectively attempted each time one of the mobile stations is being sought and the priority level is assigned based upon an attempt number for the page.

8. The method of claim 5, wherein the mobile stations are being sought to connect different types of calls thereto and the priority level is assigned based upon the type of call for which the mobile station is being sought.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the paging covers less than all of the plurality of band-classes.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the plurality of band-classes includes a first band-class and a second band-class.

16. The method of claim 3, wherein the first band class operates at about 850 MHz and the second band-class operates at about 1900 MHz.

9. A method for paging mobile stations served by a wireless telecommunications network, the method comprising:

(a) assigning a priority level to a paging attempt for a mobile station;

(b) queuing-up a plurality of pending paging attempts according to their assigned priority level; and

,

(c) executing the paging attempts in the order queued-up.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein multiple paging attempts are selectively made each time one of the mobile stations is being sought and the priority level is assigned based upon a number of the paging attempt.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein a first paging attempt has a higher priority level than a subsequent paging attempt.

12. The method of claim 9, wherein the paging attempts correspond to different types of calls and the priority level is assigned based upon the type of call to which the paging attempt corresponds.

13. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

remembering which one of a plurality of band-classes was last used to communicate with the mobile station; and

,

selectively paging the mobile station over the wireless telecommunications network upon execution of the paging attempt, said paging covering at least the remembered band-class for the mobile station being paged.
