Abstract

Enables search and test for at least one value in layers of audience specific data comprising language, regional, regulatory and/or cultural specific values per layer. The word “audience” for the purposes of this specification means a group of document consumers such as people or computers that are associated with a language, country, region, regulation, culture or any other user defined division. A search utilizing at least one embodiment of the invention occurs with respect to data that makes use of rule-based inheritance. Testing multiple audience layers for all values that meet a specific fine or coarse grained search criteria allows quality assurance testing across all target audiences for a document before publication.

Claims

1. In a computer system, a method for searching layered data comprising:

obtaining at least one audience identifier;

obtaining a first audience inheritance list for a first audience identifier selected from said at least one audience identifier;

checking for a value or link in a plurality of fields associated with audience layered document for said first audience inheritance list associated with said first audience identifier; and

,

returning a result for a search based on said checking.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

obtaining a second audience inheritance list for a second audience identifier selected from

said at least one audience identifier; and

,

checking for a value or link in a plurality of fields associated with audience layered document for said second audience inheritance list associated with said second audience identifier.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

accepting an operator; and

,

applying said operator in said search.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein said operator is a coarse grained operator.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein said operator is a fine grained operator.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising presenting said result to a user.

7. In a computer system, a method for searching layered data comprising:

obtaining at least one audience identifier;

obtaining a first audience inheritance list for a first audience identifier selected from said at least one audience identifier;

accepting an operator;

checking for a value or link in a plurality of fields associated with audience layered document for said first audience inheritance list associated with said first audience identifier based on said operator;

obtaining a second audience inheritance list for a second audience identifier selected from said at least one audience identifier;

checking for a value or link in a plurality of fields associated with audience layered document for said second audience inheritance list associated with said second audience identifier based on said operator; and

,

returning a result for a search based on said checking.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein said operator is a coarse grained operator.

9. The method of claim 7 wherein said operator is a fine grained operator.

10. The method of claim 7 further comprising presenting said result to a user.

11. A system for searching layered data comprising:

means for obtaining at least one audience identifier;

means for obtaining a first audience inheritance list for a first audience identifier selected from said at least one audience identifier;

means for checking for a value or link in a plurality of fields associated with audience layered document for said first audience inheritance list associated with said first audience identifier; and

,

means for returning a result for a search based on said checking.

12. The system of claim 11 further comprising:

means for obtaining a second audience inheritance list for a second audience identifier selected from said at least one audience identifier; and

,

means for checking for a value or link in a plurality of fields associated with audience layered document for said second audience inheritance list associated with said second audience identifier.

13. The system of claim 11 further comprising:

means for accepting an operator; and

,

means for applying said operator in said search.

14. The system of claim 11 wherein said operator is a coarse grained operator.

15. The system of claim 11 wherein said operator is a fine grained operator.

16. The system of claim 11 further comprising means for presenting said result to a user.

17. A system for searching layered data comprising:

means for obtaining at least one audience identifier;

means for obtaining a first audience inheritance list for a first audience identifier selected from said at least one audience identifier;

means for accepting an operator;

means for checking for a value or link in a plurality of fields associated with audience layered document for said first audience inheritance list associated with said first audience identifier based on said operator;

means for obtaining a second audience inheritance list for a second audience identifier selected from said at least one audience identifier;

means for checking for a value or link in a plurality of fields associated with audience layered document for said second audience inheritance list associated with said second audience identifier based on'"'"'said operator; and

,

means for returning a result for a search based on said checking.

18. The system of claim 17 wherein said operator is a coarse grained operator.

19. The system of claim 17 wherein said operator is a fine grained operator.

20. The system of claim 17 further comprising means for presenting said result to a user.
