Abstract

Data management and distribution are described, including a memory configured to store data, the data being stored in a file and the file is downloaded in response to a signal, and downloading is performed based on a parameter determined by a provider of the file or the system, and a logic module configured to process the signal and access data stored in the file, and the file is downloaded to a device and configured for interaction with a user, and user activity is recorded and used by the logic module when selecting another file for downloading to the device.

Claims

1. A method for managing an artist file, comprising:

identifying the artist file, the artist file being stored on a source;

retrieving the artist file from the source;

sending the artist file to a device according to a parameter determined by a provider of the artist file, wherein a profile is associated with the device; and

performing an action on the artist file using the device, wherein the profile is updated according to the action.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the artist file is identified according to the profile associated with the device.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the artist file is identified according to an identification scheme determined by the provider.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the identification scheme is a promotion.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the promotion is determined by an artist and a fan list, the fan list being modified based on the action.

6. The method of claim 3, wherein the identification scheme is based on the artist file being forwarded from another device.

7. The method of claim 3, wherein the identification scheme is a StreamJ play list.

8. The method of claim 7, further comprising configuring the StreamJ play list, the configuring being determined by a StreamJ, the StreamJ play list comprising one or more artist files and one or more annotations based on a preference of the StreamJ.

9. The method of claim 3, wherein the identification scheme is based on randomization.

10. The method of claim 3, wherein the identification scheme is based on social filtering.

11. The method of claim 3, wherein the identification scheme is based on self-queuing.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the self-queuing comprises selecting one or more artist files based on a preference associated with another profile.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the artist file is identified according to another action, the another action being performed on another device.

14. The method of claim 1:

providing a first artist file associated with a first provider and a second artist file associated with a second provider, said second artist file being an annotation of the first artist file; and

sending the first and second artist files to the device.

15. The method of claim 1, further comprising gathering feedback from the device, the feedback being stored for retrieval by the provider.

16. The method of claim 1, further comprising associating the artist file with a boxcar, the boxcar being associated with a range, the range comprising one or more boxcar being sent to the device.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising stopping sending the range when an amount of boxcars associated with the range has been sent.

18. The method of claim 1, wherein the parameter comprises a time expiration, the time expiration being associated with the artist file.

19. The method of claim 1, wherein the parameter comprises a control parameter for modifying the action.

20. The method of claim 1, wherein the action comprises at least one of a accept, reject, skip, or forward.

21. An artist file management system, comprising:

a memory configured to store an artist file; and

a logic module configured to identify the artist file, the artist file being stored on a source, to retrieve the artist file from the source, to send the artist file to a device according to a parameter determined by a provider of the artist file, wherein a profile is associated with the device, and to perform an action on the artist file using the device, wherein the profile is updated according to the action.

22. A computer program product for artist file management, the computer program product being embodied in a computer readable medium and comprising computer instructions for:

identifying the artist file located on a source;

retrieving the artist file from the source;

sending the artist file to a device according to a parameter determined by a provider of the artist file wherein a profile is associated with the device; and

performing an action using the device on the artist file wherein the profile is updated according to the action.
