Abstract

A method and system for airport or other building security where passengers or persons entering a building approach a check-in point or check-in counter and must undergo a positive identification (ID) by fingerprint scan, retinal or iris scan, face feature scan, or an other means of positive identification. A digital photograph can then be taken of the person. This data plus the positive ID data and optional data about the person including a scan of a government supplied ID like a drivers license or passport is entered in a database and checked against various law enforcement databases such as FBI or others for law enforcement interest in the person. The person is given an electronic card that has wireless capability. The person carries the card while in the airport or building. The system is notified when the person enters a secure gate area, boards or leaves an aircraft, etc. In addition, the system can determine if a person is carrying more than one card or if a card has been abandoned. The system detects and tracks any undesirable person in the airport or building an provides a means for apprehending the person by security or law enforcement personnel. In addition, immigration or customs can be notified about any undesirable person arriving in an airport or building. The system can track a passenger through airports and aircraft in the world air transportation system.

Claims

1. A security monitoring system comprising:

a security pass capable of being carried by a person, said pass containing stored biometric information identifying a particular individual;

an electronic communications circuit in said security pass allowing access to said biometric information, said electronic communications circuit also providing information about the location of said security pass.

2. The security monitoring system of claim 1 wherein said information about the location of the security pass is reported to a location remote from said security pass.

3. The security monitoring system of claim 1 wherein said electronics communication circuit in said security pass provides information indicating the person has passed a particular point in a facility.

4. The security monitoring system of claim 1 wherein said electronics communication circuit in the security pass provides information indicating the person has passed through a security check point.

5. The security monitoring system of claim 3 wherein said particular point is an entrance to a restricted area.

6. The security monitoring system of claim 1 further comprising comparing the biometric information in the security pass against current biometric information presented by said person.

7. The security monitoring system of claim 6 wherein security personnel are notified when the biometric information in said security pass does not match the current biometric information presented by said person.

8. A facility security identification system comprising:

a portable security device, said security device containing a memory and a first communications circuit, wherein said memory device stores a particular individual'"'"'s name as well as biometric identification information identifying said particular individual, said biometric identification information being accessible through said first communications circuit;

a checkpoint located in said facility containing a second communications circuit, said second communications circuit communicating with said portable security device to access said individual'"'"'s name and said biometric identification information from the memory device in said portable security device;

a computer containing a least one database in communication with said checkpoint, said computer making a data entry into said database when said portable security card passes said checkpoint.

9. The facility security system of claim 8 wherein said portable security device is an identification card.

10. The facility security system of claim 9 wherein a person carrying said identification card presents current biometric identification information at said checkpoint.

11. The security system of claim 10 wherein law enforcement personnel are notified when said current biometric information does not match the biometric information stored in said card.

12. The security system of claim 9 wherein said computer communicates with at least one law enforcement database.

13. The security system of claim 12 wherein law enforcement personnel are notified when said person is found to be of law enforcement interest in said law enforcement database.

14. A facility security identification system comprising:

a portable security ID pass carried by a person approaching a checkpoint, said security ID pass containing stored biometric information identifying a particular individual, said security ID pass capable of communication of said biometric information with an external station;

an identification collection device located at said checkpoint, wherein said person presents current biometric identification information to said identification collection device when said person arrives at said checkpoint;

said portable security ID pass further containing an electronic circuit capable of providing location information relating to the location of said ID pass with respect to said checkpoint.

15. The security identification system of claim 14 wherein said electronic circuit is a radio frequency circuit.

16. The security identification system of claim 14 wherein said system makes an entry in a database when said ID pass passes said checkpoint.

17. The security identification system of claim 14 wherein security personnel are notified when said current biometric identification information does not match said biometric identification information stored in said ID pass.

18. The security identification system of claim 14 wherein said portable security ID pass contains an integrated circuit.

19. The security identification system of claim 14 wherein said portable security ID pass contains a GPS receiver.

20. The security identification system of claim 16 wherein said database also contains biometric information identifying said particular individual.
