Abstract

Data communication using wireless service discovery is continuously provided even if a radio wave condition temporarily deteriorates or movement of an apparatus occurs. If a temporary deterioration in wireless radio wave environment is found in a communication apparatus including a service discovery function, a search is made again at a raised transmission power. Forcible disconnection processing from a higher-level layer is prevented when communication at the network layer level is continuing.

Claims

1. A communication apparatus having a function of confirming existence of another device on a network, having:

a confirmation unit which confirms existence of another device; and

a transmission unit which changes transmission power and transmits a confirmation signal for confirming the existence of said another device, depending on a confirmation result obtained from said confirmation unit.

2. The communication apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the confirmation signal is a signal to search for a service provided by said another device.

3. The communication apparatus according to claim 1, further having;

a determination unit which determines the number of times the confirmation signal is transmitted at the changed transmission power; and

a disconnection unit which, when the apparatus has an ongoing connection with said another device, disconnects communication with said another device depending on a determination obtained from said determination unit.

4. The communication apparatus according to claim 1, wherein

said confirmation unit includes

a management unit which manages an expiration period of information contained in a response signal corresponding to the confirmation signal for confirming the existence of said another device, on the basis of the response signal, and

a unit which confirms the existence of said another device by transmitting the confirmation signal on the basis of the expiration period, and

said transmission unit includes a unit which changes the transmission power and transmits the confirmation signal if no response signal to the confirmation signal transmitted by said confirmation unit is received.

5. The communication apparatus according to claim 4, wherein

said transmission unit includes a unit which transmits the confirmation signal regardless of the expiration period.

6. A communication apparatus which gives notice of existence to another device on a network, having:

a management unit which manages existence of said another device on the basis of a notice signal transmitted from said another device; and

a transmission unit which changes transmission power and transmits a notice signal, depending on when the notice signal is received.

7. The communication apparatus according to claim 6, wherein

said management unit includes a unit which manages an expiration period on the basis of information contained in the notice signal, and

said transmission unit includes a unit which determines a change of the transmission power depending on when the notice signal is received and the expiration period.

8. The communication apparatus according to claim 6, further including

a notice unit which gives notice of existence of the communication apparatus to said another device by transmitting a notice signal, wherein

said notice unit includes a unit which transmits a next notice signal after a lapse of a predetermined period from transmission of a notice signal, and

said transmission unit includes a unit which transmits a notice signal even before expiration of the predetermined period, depending on time when the notice signal is received.

9. The communication apparatus according to claim 6, further having:

a determination unit which determines the number of times the notice signal is transmitted at the changed transmission power by said transmission unit, and

a disconnection unit which, when the apparatus has an ongoing connection with said another device, disconnects communication with said another device depending on a determination obtained from said determination unit.

10. A communication method having;

a confirmation step of confirming existence of another device; and

a transmission step of changing transmission power and transmitting a confirmation signal for confirming the existence of said another device, depending on a confirmation result obtained in the confirmation step.

11. A communication method having:

a management step of managing existence of another device on the basis of an existence notice signal transmitted from said another device; and

a transmission step of changing transmission power and transmitting an existence notice signal, depending on when the notice signal is received.
