Abstract

A system for facilitating image management for portable devices is disclosed. The system includes a host configured to maintain information relating to a first portable device and a second portable device and an interface device configured to communicate with the host and the first and second portable devices. The interface device includes control logic configured to: determine whether the first portable device is valid for image synchronization using information provided by the host; and if it is determined that the first portable device is valid for image synchronization, record an image of the first portable device, determine whether the second portable device is valid for image synchronization, and download an image of the first portable device to the second portable device if it is determined that the second portable device is valid for image synchronization. The interface device further includes control logic configured to: determine whether the second portable device is valid for image replacement using information provided by the host, and if it is determined that the second portable device is valid for image replacement, retrieve an image of the first portable device and download the retrieved image to the second portable device. The interface device also includes control logic configured to: determine whether the second portable device includes additional information that is not included in the image of the first portable device, and if it is determined that the second portable device includes the additional information, concatenate the additional information with the image of the first portable device, and download the concatenated additional information and image of the first portable device onto the second portable device. The interface device concatenates the additional information and the image of the first portable device based on a set of conflict resolution rules.

65. A system comprising:

a first portable device;

a second portable device; and

a host configured to facilitate image management information relating to the first portable device and the second portable device, determine whether the first portable device is valid for image synchronization, determine whether the second device is valid for image synchronization, and download an image of the first portable device to the second portable device if the control logic determines that the second portable device is valid for image synchronization, wherein the first and second portable devices contain loyalty information and wherein the first and second portable devices belong to the same person.

66. A method of providing a second portable payment device with a second image, wherein the second image is derived at least in part from information relating to a first image associated with a first portable payment device, wherein the first portable payment device and the second portable payment device are associated with a holder, the method comprising:

interacting with an interface device using the second portable payment device, wherein the interface device thereafter contacts a host to determine if an update of the second portable payment device is allowed, wherein the interface device thereafter obtains the second image if the update of the second portable payment device is allowed, wherein the second image comprises information relating to a prior payment transaction history of the holder using the first portable payment device; and

updating the second portable payment device with the second image using the interface device.

67. The method of claim 66 wherein the first and second portable payment devices are payment cards.

68. The method of claim 66 wherein the second image comprises a rewards program image.

69. The method of claim 66 wherein the second image comprises updated loyalty information.

70. The method of claim 66 wherein the interface device comprises a kiosk.

71. The method of claim 66 further comprising interacting with the interface device using the first portable payment device, wherein the first portable payment device is thereafter authenticated by the host.

72. A system comprising:

a host; and

an interface device in communication with the host, wherein the interface device is adapted to contact the host to determine if an update of a second portable payment device is allowed, wherein the interface device is thereafter adapted to obtain a second image derived at least in part from information relating to a first image associated with a first portable payment device, if the update of the second portable payment device is allowed, wherein the second image comprises information relating to a prior payment transaction history of the holder using the first portable payment device, and wherein the interface device is adapted to update the second portable payment device with the second image.

73. The method of claim 72 wherein the first and second portable payment devices are payment cards.

74. The method of claim 72 wherein the second image comprises a rewards program image.

75. The method of claim 72 wherein the second image comprises updated loyalty information.

76. The method of claim 72 wherein the interface device comprises a kiosk.

77. The method of claim 72 further comprising interacting with the interface device using the first portable payment device, wherein the first portable payment device is thereafter authenticated by the host.

78. A method for facilitating image management for portable smartcards, the method comprising:

maintaining information relating to a first portable payment device and a second portable payment device; and

determining whether the second portable payment device is valid for image synchronization, and downloading a second image associated with a first image associated with the first portable payment device to the second portable payment device if the control logic determines that the second portable payment device is valid for image synchronization,

wherein the first and second portable payment devices contain rewards information and wherein the first and second portable payment devices are associated with the same person.

79. The method of claim 78 wherein the first and second portable payment devices are in the form of cards.

80. The method of claim 78 wherein the first and second images comprise information relating to a prior payment transaction history associated with the person.

81. A host configured to perform the method of claim 78.

82. A host configured to perform the method of claim 79.

83. A host configured to perform the method of claim 80.
