White light tandem OLED display with filters
First Claim
1. A tandem OLED device having at least two spaced electrodes comprising:
- a) at least two broadband light-emitting units disposed between the electrodes that produce different emission spectra and each light-emitting unit produces light that has two or more spaced peak spectral components;
b) an intermediate connector disposed between each of the light-emitting units; and
c) an array of at least three different color filters associated with the device that receives light from the broadband light-emitting units, the band pass of each of the color filters being selected to produce different colored light, wherein the full width at about half maximum of at least one of such spaced peak spectral components produced by each emitting unit is within the band pass of a color filter, and wherein each of the at least three different color filters receives at least one spaced peak spectral component having a full width at about half maximum that is within its band pass.

Abstract
A tandem OLED device having spaced electrodes includes broadband light-emitting units disposed between the electrodes that produce different emission spectra and each light-emitting unit produces light that has multiple spaced peak spectral components, and an intermediate connector disposed between each of the light-emitting units. The device also includes an array of at least three different color filters associated with the device which receives light from the broadband light-emitting units, the band pass of each of the color filters being selected to produce different colored light, wherein the full width at about half maximum of at least one of such spaced peak spectral components produced by each emitting unit is within the band pass of a color filter, and wherein each of the at least three different color filters receives at least one spaced peak spectral component having a full width at about half maximum that is within its band pass.

14. A white light-emitting OLED comprising:
-
a) an anode and a cathode; and
b) at least four light-emitting materials provided between the anode and the cathode, wherein each of the four light-emitting materials produces a different emission spectrum when current passes between the anode and cathode, such spectra combine to form white light.

15. An OLED display comprising:
-
a) an array of first, second, third and fourth light-emitting pixels, each pixel having an anode, a cathode, and a white light-emitting element provided between each anode and cathode, such white light-emitting element including first, second, third, and fourth light-emitting materials each having different, spaced emission peak spectral components that combine to form white light when current passes through the anode and cathode; and
b) an array of at least three different color filters in operative association with the first, second, and third light-emitting pixels, such filters being selected to receive white light to produce different colored light, wherein each of the at least three different color filters receives at least one spaced emission peak spectral component having a full width at about half maximum that is within the band pass of the respective color filter, and wherein the fourth light-emitting pixel produces white light.
