Abstract

Situational location dependent information is transmitted from a server data processing system to a receiving data processing system. The server data processing system communicates with the receiving data processing system in a manner by pushing content when appropriate. A candidate delivery event associated with a current positional attribute of the receiving data processing system is recognized and a situational location of the remote data processing system is determined. The candidate delivery event may be a location and/or direction change, device state change, or movement exceeding a movement tolerance. The situational location of the remote data processing system may be its location, direction, location and direction, proximity to a location, state change, or location and/or direction relative to a previous location and/or direction, or combinations thereof. A set of delivery content from a deliverable content database is transmitted from the server data processing system to the receiving data processing system according to the situational location of the receiving data processing system, and according to delivery constraints. The delivery content is configurable by authorized administrators on an instant activation basis for proactive delivery.

Claims

1. A method for sending information to a mobile receiving system, the method comprising the steps of:

communicating a plurality of requests containing Global Positioning System Coordinates for the receiving system to a data processing system service, wherein each individual request of the plurality of requests is communicated without a user making the each individual request through a user interface to the receiving system;

retrieving by the service the information according to the Global Positioning System Coordinates; and

,

sending the information from the service to the receiving system over a wireless connection.

2. The method of claim 1 further including the step of presenting the information to a user of the receiving system.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the step of presenting the information to a user of the receiving system includes presentation of audio information at the receiving system.

4. The method of claim 2 wherein the step of presenting the information to a user of the receiving system includes presentation of visual information at the receiving system.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the receiving system is a wireless phone.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the receiving system is a data processing system.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the information includes information to facilitate user navigation.

8. The method of claim 1 further including the step of communicating a next request to the service wherein the next request is communicated upon detection of exceeding a movement tolerance of the receiving system.

9. The method of claim 1 further including the step of communicating a next request to the service wherein the next request is communicated upon detection of a direction change of the receiving system.

10. The method of claim 1 further including the step of communicating a next request to the service wherein the next request is communicated upon detection of a location change of the receiving system.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein the information includes advertising information.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of sending the information from the service to the receiving system over a wireless connection comprises sending the information from the service to the receiving system over a wireless connection according to a user configuration.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein the user configuration is a user interest.

14. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of sending the information from the service to the receiving system over a wireless connection comprises sending the information from the service to the receiving system over a wireless connection according to a constraint associated with the receiving system.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the constraint is a capability of the receiving system.

16. The method of claim 1 further including the step of user configuration of the service through an internet connected web service.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein the user configuration of the service includes configuration of the information.

18. The method of claim 16 wherein the user configuration of the service includes configuration of how to send the information to the receiving system.

19. The method of claim 1 wherein the information includes an invocable speed reference.

20. The method of claim 1 further including the step of a plurality of users configuring a deliverable content database including the information.

21. The method of claim 1 further including the step of maintaining the information to a history for browse by a user.

22. The method of claim 1 wherein the information is an indicator indicating the availability of information for sending to the receiving system.

23. A method for sending information to a mobile receiving system, the method comprising the steps of:

communicating a request containing a physical location for the receiving system to a data processing system service, wherein the request is communicated without a user making the request through a user interface to the receiving system, and wherein the physical location is determined with geometric measuring relative a plurality of antennas;

retrieving by the service the information according to the physical location; and

sending the information from the service to the receiving system over a wireless connection.

24. The method of claim 23 further including the step of presenting the information to a user of the receiving system.

25. The method of claim 24 wherein the step of presenting the information to a user of the receiving system includes presentation of audio information at the receiving system.

26. The method of claim 24 wherein the step of presenting the information to a user of the receiving system includes presentation of visual information at the receiving system.

27. The method of claim 23 wherein the receiving system is a wireless phone.

28. The method of claim 23 wherein the receiving system is a data processing system.

29. The method of claim 23 wherein the information includes information to facilitate user navigation.

30. The method of claim 23 further including the step of communicating a next request to the service wherein the next request is communicated upon detection of exceeding a movement tolerance of the receiving system.

31. The method of claim 23 further including the step of communicating a next request to the service wherein the next request is communicated upon detection of a direction change of the receiving system.

32. The method of claim 23 further including the step of communicating a next request to the service wherein the next request is communicated upon detection of a location change of the receiving system.

33. The method of claim 23 wherein the information includes advertising information.

34. The method of claim 23 wherein the step of sending the information from the service to the receiving system over a wireless connection comprises sending the information from the service to the receiving system over a wireless connection according to a user configuration.

35. The method of claim 34 wherein the user configuration is a user interest.

The method of claim 23 wherein the step of sending the information from the service to the receiving system over a wireless connection comprises sending the information from the service to the receiving system over a wireless connection according to a constraint associated with the receiving system.

37. The method of claim 36 wherein the constraint is a capability of the receiving system.

38. The method of claim 23 further including the step of user configuration of the service through an internet connected web service.

39. The method of claim 38 wherein the user configuration of the service includes configuration of the information.

40. The method of claim 38 wherein the user configuration of the service includes configuration of how to send the information to the receiving system.

41. The method of claim 23 wherein the information includes an invocable speed reference.

42. The method of claim 23 further including the step of a plurality of users configuring a deliverable content database including the information.

43. The method of claim 23 further including the step of maintaining the information to a history for browse by a user.

44. The method of claim 23 wherein the information is an indicator indicating the availability of information for sending to the receiving system.

45. The method of claim 23 wherein the geometric measuring includes a Time Difference of Arrival measurement.

46. The method of claim 23 wherein the geometric measuring includes an Angle of Arrival measurement.

47. A method for sending information to a mobile unit, the method comprising the steps of:

automatically communicating a plurality of location updates from the mobile unit to a remote data processing system, wherein each location update provides a location coordinate of the mobile unit;

automatically receiving data from the remote data processing system, the data including location-specific content;

providing the location-specific content to a user interface of the mobile unit.

48. The method of claim 47 wherein the location specific content includes information for updating a map and wherein the user interface includes a visual display for displaying the map.

49. The method of claim 47 wherein the location specific content information for identifying a nearby merchant.

50. The method of claim 49 wherein the location specific content includes advertising information for the nearby merchant.

51. The method of claim 47 wherein the mobile unit includes a cellular telephone interface, and the plurality of location updates are communicated, at least in part, via the cellular telephone network.

52. The method of claim 47 wherein the location updates include global positioning satellite coordinates.

53. The method of claim 47 wherein at least one of the location updates includes a speed of the mobile unit.

54. The method of claim 47 wherein at least one of the location updates includes a movement direction of the mobile unit.
