Abstract

The present invention discusses a computerized method for managing a communication network through processing data used in a Capacity Management System (CMS) associated with the communication network. A configurable grammar, such as an XML grammar with regular expressions, is used to implement various aspects of network management. Data management includes pre-processing data (transferring data, decompressing data, parsing data), loading data into a relational database, and data analysis. Results of data analysis can be used to determine a network condition, and thereby to enable network management.

Claims

1. A computerized method for managing a communication network, comprising:

pre-processing data from a plurality of communication network elements;

loading the data into a database; and

analyzing the data in the database to manage the communication network.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein managing the communication network further comprises using an XML grammar.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein using an XML grammar further comprises using regular expressions.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

using regular expressions to parse the data.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein analyzing the data further comprises determining a network condition the method further comprising:

configuring the network in response to the network condition.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the network condition further comprises at least one of the set consisting of a current network condition and a forecast network condition.

12. The medium of claim 5, wherein the network condition determined in the method further comprises at least one of the set consisting of a current network condition and a forecast network condition.

7. A computer readable medium containing instructions that when executed by a computer perform a computerized method for managing a communication network, comprising:

pre-processing data from a plurality of communication network elements;

loading the data into a database; and

analyzing the data in the database to manage the communication network.

8. The medium of claim 7, wherein in the method managing the communication network further comprises using an XML grammar.

9. The medium of claim 8, wherein in the method using an XML grammar further comprises using regular expressions.

10. The medium of claim 9, the method further comprising:

using regular expressions to parse the data.

11. The medium of claim 7, wherein in the method determining a network condition further comprises determining a network condition, the method further comprising:

configuring the network in response to the network condition.

13. A system for managing a communication network, comprising:

a processor for pre-processing data from a plurality of communication network elements; and

a database loading the data into a database, wherein the processor is programmed to analyze the data in the database to manage the communication network.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the processor is programmed to use an XML grammar to manage the communication network.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the processor is programmed to use regular expressions in the XML grammar.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the processor is programmed to use regular expressions to parse the data.

17. The method of claim 13, wherein analyzing the data further comprises:

determining a network condition; and

configuring the network in response to the network condition.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the network condition further comprises at least one of the set consisting of a current network condition and a forecast network condition.
