Methods and systems for modifying or enhancing vision are described. In exemplary embodiments, neural or neuromuscular activity is analyzed to determine a focus or other quality of a visual input, and this focus or quality information used as a basis for controlling an adjustable lens system.

33. A method of modifying a view of a visual environment, comprising the steps of:

a) detecting a neural signal from a subject, said neural signal containing information relating to the focal condition on a retina of said subject of an image of at least a portion of the view of said environment;
b) extracting said information relating to said focal condition from said neural signal;
c) determining a modification to said imaged view based upon said information relating to said focal condition; and
d) adjusting an optical system to produce said modification to said imaged view.

34. A system for providing adaptive vision modification, comprising:

a) A detector for measuring neural activity produced in a subject in response to a real-time varying visual input to an eye of said subject;
b) A signal analyzer for analyzing said neural activity to obtain an indicator of a focal condition of said visual input;
c) An image modulator for modifying said visual input; and

a) Detecting a neural signal from the nervous system of a subject;
