Abstract

A session controller coupled to a database and configured to receive an indication associated with an ingress call is disclosed. The disclosed session controller is further configured to compare at least one of a network capacity, a call-peer bandwidth, or a number of active call-legs associated with the ingress call session against a respective threshold, and to reject the ingress call when a respective threshold is exceeded.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising:

a session controller coupled to a database and configured to receive an indication associated with an ingress call,

the session controller being further configured to compare at least one of a network capacity, a call-peer bandwidth, or a number of active call-legs associated with the ingress call session against a respective threshold,

the session controller being further configured to reject the ingress call when a said respective threshold is exceeded.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the session controller is further configured to reject the ingress call when the ingress call exceeds a provisioned service-level assurance.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the session controller is further configured to reject the ingress call based on an indication of a call-load balance.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the session controller is further configured to reject the ingress call based on an indication of a best-effort service level.

14. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the session controller is further configured to reject the egress call when the egress call exceeds a provisioned service-level assurance.

15. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the session controller is further configured to reject the egress call based on an indication of a call-load balance.

16. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the session controller is further configured to reject the egress call based on an indication of a best-effort service level.

5. A method, comprising:

receiving an indication of an ingress call at a session controller;

comparing at least one of a network capacity, a call-peer bandwidth, or a number of active call-legs associated with the ingress call session against a respective threshold; and

when a said respective threshold is exceeded, rejecting the ingress call.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising rejecting the ingress call when the ingress call exceeds a service-level assurance.

7. The method of claim 5, further comprising balancing call-loading by rejecting the ingress call when a load-balancing threshold is exceeded.

8. The method of claim 5, further comprising providing a best-effort service for an overflow call by rejecting the ingress call based on an indicator of a best-effort service-level.

9. A computer program stored on a computer-readable medium, the computer program comprising:

a receiving instruction to receive an ingress call indicator associated with an ingress call;

a comparison instruction to compare at least one of a network capacity, a call-peer bandwidth, or a number of active call-legs associated with an ingress call session against a respective threshold; and

a rejection instruction to reject the ingress call when a said respective threshold is exceeded.

10. The computer program stored on a computer-readable medium of claim 9, wherein the rejection instruction is further to reject the ingress call when the ingress call exceeds a service-level assurance.

11. The computer program stored on a computer-readable medium of claim 9, wherein the rejection instruction is further to reject the ingress call based on an indicator of a call-load balancing threshold.

12. The computer program stored on a computer-readable medium of claim 9, wherein the rejection instruction is further to reject the ingress call based on an indicator of a best-effort service level associated with an overflow call.

13. An apparatus comprising:

a session controller coupled to a database and configured to receive an indication associated with an egress call,

the session controller being further configured to compare at least one of a network capacity, a call-peer bandwidth, or a number of active call-legs associated with the egress call session against a respective threshold,

the session controller being further configured to reject the egress call when a said respective threshold is exceeded.

17. A method, comprising:

receiving an indication of an egress call at a session controller;

comparing at least one of a network capacity, a call-peer bandwidth, or a number of active call-legs associated with the egress call session against a respective threshold; and

when a said respective threshold is exceeded, rejecting the egress call.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising rejecting the egress call when the egress call exceeds a service-level assurance.

19. The method of claim 17, further comprising balancing call-loading by rejecting the egress call when a load-balancing threshold is exceeded.

20. The method of claim 17, further comprising providing a best-effort service for an overflow call by rejecting the egress call based on an indicator of a best-effort service-level.

21. A computer program stored on a computer-readable medium, the computer program comprising:

a receiving instruction to receive an egress call indicator associated with an egress call;

a comparison instruction to compare at least one of a network capacity, a call-peer bandwidth, or a number of active call-legs associated with a egress call session against a respective threshold; and

a rejection instruction to reject the egress call when a said respective threshold is exceeded.

22. The computer program stored on a computer-readable medium of claim 21, wherein the rejection instruction is further to reject the egress call when the egress call exceeds a service-level assurance.

23. The computer program stored on a computer-readable medium of claim 21, wherein the rejection instruction is further to reject the egress call based on an indicator of a call-load balancing threshold.

24. The computer program stored on a computer-readable medium of claim 21, wherein the rejection instruction is further to reject the egress call based on an indicator of a best-effort service level associated with an overflow call.
