Abstract

A mobile communications terminal, and method and system for controlling a floor during a PT session, are discussed. According to one aspect of the present invention, the terminal includes a PT client. The PT client includes a controller to request a user'"'"'s confirmation of media burst for a PT session when the PT client receives a media burst confirmation request. The controller selectively starts encoding of media data of the PT session depending on the user'"'"'s response to the controller'"'"'s request.

Claims

1. A Push-to (PT) client comprising:

a controller to request a user'"'"'s confirmation of a media burst for a PT session when the PT client receives a media burst confirmation request, and to selectively start encoding of media data of the PT session depending on the user'"'"'s response to the controller'"'"'s request.

2. The PT client of claim 1, wherein if the user accepts the media burst, the controller starts the encoding of the media data and sends the encoded media data.

3. The PT client of claim 1, wherein if the user rejects the media burst, the controller does not start the encoding of the media data.

4. The PT client of claim 3, wherein the user rejects the media burst by inputting such indication into the PT client or by not responding to the controller'"'"'s request for a certain time duration.

5. The PT client of claim 1, wherein the controller receives the media burst confirmation request from a PT server or from another user associated with another PT device.

6. The PT client of claim 1, wherein the PT session involves one of the following sessions:

a moderated PT group session wherein the user of the PT client has been granted a media burst by a moderator;

a pre-granted media burst session wherein the user of the PT client has a pre-granted media burst;

a pre-emptive priority session wherein a floor interrupted by another PT user having a pre-emptive priority is granted back to the user of the PT client;

or

a session wherein a PT server delays granting of a floor to the user of the PT client for a certain time duration.

7. The PT client of claim 6, wherein if the PT session is the moderated PT group session, the controller receives the media burst confirmation request from the moderator.

8. The PT client of claim 6, wherein if the PT session is the pre-granted media burst session, the controller receives the media burst confirmation request from another PT user.

9. The PT client of claim 6, wherein if the PT session is the pre-emptive priority session, the controller receives the media burst confirmation request from a PT server.

10. The PT client of claim 6, wherein if the PT session is the session wherein the PT server delays the granting of the floor to the user of the PT client for the certain time duration, the controller receives the media burst confirmation request from a PT server.

11. The PT client of claim 1, wherein the media data includes at least one of the following:

audio data, video data, text data, multimedia data, or files.

12. The PT client of claim 1, wherein the PT session is a PTT (Push to Talk) session, a PTV (Push to View) session, or a PTD (Push to Data) session.

13. The PT client of claim 1, wherein the media data is real time protocol (RTP) data.

14. A Push-to (PT) client comprising:

a controller to generate a media burst confirmation request for a PT session with another PT client, and to send the generated media burst confirmation request to the another PT client,

wherein the media burst confirmation request requests a confirmation of a media burst for the PT session from a user of the another PT client before media data can be sent from the another PT client for the PT session.

15. The PT client of claim 14, wherein the user'"'"'s confirmation of the media burst is indicated by inputting a response of the user or by not inputting the response for a certain time duration.

16. The PT client of claim 14, wherein the PT session is a moderated PT group session in which the user of the another PT client has been granted a media burst by a moderator.

17. The PT client of claim 14, wherein the PT session is a pre-granted media burst session in which the user of the another PT client has a pre-granted media burst.

18. The PT client of claim 14, wherein the media data includes at least one of the following:

audio data, video data, text data, multimedia data, or files.

19. The PT client of claim 14, wherein the PT session is a PTT (Push to Talk) session, a PTV (Push to Video) session, or a PTD (Push to Data) session.

20. A Push-to (PT) server comprising:

a controller to generate a media burst confirmation request for a PT session of a PT client, and to send the generated media burst confirmation request to the PT client,

wherein the media burst confirmation request requests a confirmation of a media burst for the PT session from a user of the PT client before media data can be sent from the PT client for the PT session.

21. The PT server of claim 20, wherein the user'"'"'s confirmation of the media burst is indicated by inputting a response of the user or by not inputting the response for a certain time duration.

22. The PT server of claim 20, wherein the PT session is a pre-emptive priority session in which a floor interrupted by another PT user having a pre-emptive priority is granted back to the user of the PT client.

23. The PT server of claim 20, wherein the PT session is a session in which the PT server delays granting of a floor to the user of the PT client for a certain time duration.

24. The PT server of claim 20, wherein the media data includes at least one of the following:

audio data, video data, text data, multimedia data, or files.

25. The PT server of claim 20, wherein the PT session is a PTT (Push to Talk) session, a PTV (Push to Video) session, or a PTD (Push to Data) session.

26. A Push-to (PT) system comprising:

a device to generate and transmit a media burst confirmation request for a PT session; and

a PT client to request a user'"'"'s confirmation of a media burst for the PT session in response to the media burst confirmation request received from the device, and to selectively start encoding of media data of the PT session depending on the user'"'"'s response to the request for the user'"'"'s confirmation of the media burst.

27. The PT system of claim 26, wherein if the user accepts the media burst, the PT client starts the encoding of the media data and sends the encoded media data, and

wherein if the user rejects the media burst, the PT client does not start the encoding of the media data.

28. The PT system of claim 27, wherein the user rejects the media burst by inputting such indication into the PT client or by not responding to the media burst confirmation request for a certain time duration.

29. The PT system of claim 26, wherein the device is a PT server or another PT client.

30. The PT system of claim 26, wherein the PT session involves one of the following sessions:

a moderated PT group session wherein the user of the PT client has been granted a media burst by a moderator;

a pre-granted media burst session wherein the user of the PT client has a pre-granted media burst;

a pre-emptive priority session wherein a floor interrupted by another PT user having a pre-emptive priority is granted back to the user of the PT client;

or

a session wherein the device delays granting of a floor to the user of the PT client for a certain time duration.

31. The PT system of claim 30, wherein if the PT session is the moderated PT group session, the device is a PT client of the moderator;

if the PT session is the pre-granted media burst session, the device is another PT client;

if the PT session is the pre-emptive priority session, the device is a PT server;

or

if the PT session is the session wherein the PT server delays the granting of the floor to the user of the PT client for the certain time duration, the device is a PT server.

32. The PT system of claim 26, wherein the media data includes at least one of the following:

audio data, video data, text data, multimedia data, or files.

33. The PT system of claim 26, wherein the PT session is a PTT (Push to Talk) session, a PTV (Push to Video) session, or a PTD (Push to Data) session.

34. A method of controlling a floor of a Push-to (PT) session, the method comprising:

requesting, by a PT client, a user'"'"'s confirmation of a media burst for the PT session when the PT client receives a media burst confirmation request; and

selectively starting, by the PT client, encoding of media data of the PT session depending on the user'"'"'s response to the request for the user'"'"'s confirmation of the media burst.

35. The method of claim 34, wherein if the user accepts the media burst, the selectively starting step starts the encoding of the media data and sends the encoded media data.

36. The method of claim 34, wherein if the user rejects the media burst, the selectively starting step does not start the encoding of the media data.

37. The method of claim 36, wherein the user rejects the media burst by inputting such indication into the PT client or by not responding to the request for the user'"'"'s confirmation of the media burst for a certain time duration.

38. The method of claim 34, wherein in the requesting step, the media burst confirmation request is received from a PT server or from another user associated with another PT device.

39. The method of claim 34, wherein in the requesting step, the PT session involves one of the following sessions:

a moderated PT group session wherein the user of the PT client has been granted a media burst by a moderator;

a pre-granted media burst session wherein the user of the PT client has a pre-granted media burst;

a pre-emptive priority session wherein a floor interrupted by another PT user having a pre-emptive priority is granted back to the user of the PT client;

or

a session wherein a PT server delays granting of a floor to the user of the PT client for a certain time duration.

40. The method of claim 39, wherein if the PT session is the moderated PT group session, the PT client receives the media burst confirmation request from the moderator.

41. The method of claim 39, wherein if the PT session is the pre-granted media burst session, the PT client receives the media burst confirmation request from another PT user.

42. The method of claim 39, wherein if the PT session is the pre-emptive priority session, the PT client receives the media burst confirmation request from a PT server.

43. The method of claim 39, wherein if the PT session is the session wherein the PT server delays the granting of the floor to the user of the PT client for the certain time duration, the PT client receives the media burst confirmation request from a PT server.

44. The method of claim 34, wherein the media data includes at least one of the following:

audio data, video data, text data, multimedia data, or files.

45. The method of claim 34, wherein the PT session is a PTT (Push to Talk) session, a PTV (Push to View) session, or a PTD (Push to Data) session.

46. The method of claim 34, wherein the media data is real time protocol (RTP) data.

47. A method of controlling a floor of a Push-to (PT) session, the method comprising:

generating, by a PT client, a media burst confirmation request for the PT session with another PT client; and

sending, by the PT client, the generated media burst confirmation request to the another PT client,

wherein the media burst confirmation request requests a confirmation of a media burst for the PT session from a user of the another PT client before media data can be sent from the another PT client for the PT session.

48. The method of claim 47, wherein the user'"'"'s confirmation of the media burst is indicated by inputting a response of the user or by not inputting the response for a certain time duration.

49. The method of claim 47, wherein the PT session is a moderated PT group session in which the user of the another PT client has been granted a media burst by a moderator.

50. The method of claim 47, wherein the PT session is a pre-granted media burst session in which the user of the another PT client has a pre-granted media burst.

51. The method of claim 47, wherein the media data includes at least one of the following:

audio data, video data, text data, multimedia data, or files.

52. The method of claim 47, wherein the PT session is a PTT (Push to Talk) session, a PTV (Push to Video) session, or a PTD (Push to Data) session.

53. A method of controlling a floor of a Push-to (PT) session, the method comprising:

generating, by a PT server, a media burst confirmation request for the PT session of a PT client; and

sending, by the PT server, the generated media burst confirmation request to the PT client,

wherein the media burst confirmation request requests a confirmation of a media burst for the PT session from a user of the PT client before media data can be sent from the PT client for the PT session.

54. The method of claim 53, wherein the user'"'"'s confirmation of the media burst is indicated by inputting a response of the user or by not inputting the response for a certain time duration.

55. The method of claim 53, wherein the PT session is a pre-emptive priority session in which a floor interrupted by another PT user having a pre-emptive priority is granted back to the user of the PT client.

56. The method of claim 53, wherein the PT session is a session in which the PT server delays granting of a floor to the user of the PT client for a certain time duration.

57. The method of claim 53, wherein the media data includes at least one of the following:

audio data, video data, text data, multimedia data, or files.

58. The method of claim 53, wherein the PT session is a PTT (Push to Talk) session, a PTV (Push to Video) session, or a PTD (Push to Data) session.

59. A method of controlling a floor of a Push-to (PT) session in a system including a device and a PT client, the method comprising:

generating and transmitting, by the device, a media burst confirmation request for the PT session;

requesting, by the PT client, a user'"'"'s confirmation of a media burst for the PT session in response to the media burst confirmation request received from the device; and

selectively starting, by the PT client, encoding of media data of the PT session depending on the user'"'"'s response to the request for the user'"'"'s confirmation of the media burst.

60. The method of claim 59, wherein if the user accepts the media burst, the selectively starting step starts the encoding of the media data and sends the encoded media data, and

wherein if the user rejects the media burst, the selectively starting step does not start the encoding of the media data.

61. The method of claim 60, wherein the user rejects the media burst by inputting such indication into the PT client or by not responding to the media burst confirmation request for a certain time duration.

62. The method of claim 59, wherein the PT session involves one of the following sessions:

a moderated PT group session wherein the user of the PT client has been granted a media burst by a moderator;

a pre-granted media burst session wherein the user of the PT client has a pre-granted media burst;

a pre-emptive priority session wherein a floor interrupted by another PT user having a pre-emptive priority is granted back to the user of the PT client;

or

a session wherein the device delays granting of a floor to the user of the PT client for a certain time duration.

63. The method of claim 62, wherein if the PT session is the moderated PT group session, the device is a PT client of the moderator;

if the PT session is the pre-granted media burst session, the device is another PT client;

if the PT session is the pre-emptive priority session, the device is a PT server;

or

if the PT session is the session wherein the PT server delays the granting of the floor to the user of the PT client for the certain time duration, the device is a PT server.

64. The method of claim 59, wherein the media data includes at least one of the following:

audio data, video data, text data, multimedia data, or files.

65. The method of claim 59, wherein the PT session is a PTT (Push to Talk) session, a PTV (Push to Video) session, or a PTD (Push to Data) session.
