Abstract

Chemical compositions may be selectively or preferentially excited by the application of scores comprising a series of energy inputs.

Claims

1. An instrument for determining a score specifying a series of energy inputs having a physical effect on a target composition, the instrument comprising:

a test score generator that selects a test score for application to the target composition;

an energy input component that applies the energy inputs specified by the test score to the target composition; and

a monitor that tests whether the target composition has been physically affected by the application of the energy inputs specified by the test score.

2. The instrument of claim 1, wherein the test score comprises a set of energy input descriptors, each descriptor specifying at least one attribute of an energy input selected from the group consisting of frequency, modulation frequency, phase, amplitude, temporal profile, polarization, direction, and coherence.

3. The instrument of claim 2, wherein the test score comprises at least 4 energy inputs.

4. The instrument of claim 2, wherein the test score comprises at least 10 energy inputs.

5. The instrument of claim 2, wherein the test score comprises at least 36 energy inputs.

6. The instrument of claim 1, wherein the test score specifies that the series of energy inputs are applied simultaneously.

7. The instrument of claim 1, wherein the test score specifies that the series of energy inputs are applied sequentially.

8. The instrument of claim 1, wherein the test score specifies that the series of energy inputs are applied in a temporally overlapping manner.

9. The instrument of claim 1, wherein the test score generator uses a spectroscopic profile of the composition to select a test score.

10. The instrument of claim 1, wherein the test score generator uses molecular modeling to select a test score.

11. The instrument of claim 1, wherein the test score generator selects a test score from a database of scores.

12. The instrument of claim 1, wherein the test score generator further selects an adjusted test score based on feedback from the monitor.

13. The instrument of claim 1, wherein the monitor measures a property of the target composition selected from the group consisting of energy levels, kinetic effects, structural changes, chemical activities, index of refraction, diffraction properties, optical absorption, temperature, and combinations thereof.

14. The instrument of claim 1, wherein the monitor comprises a sensor that monitors an optical beam directed at the target composition.

15. The instrument of claim 1, wherein the monitor comprises a thermal imager.

16. The instrument of claim 1, further comprising a field generator that applies a field to the target composition.

17. The instrument of claim 16, wherein the field is selected from the group consisting of an electric field, a magnetic field, an electromagnetic field, a mechanical stress, a mechanical strain, a lowered or elevated temperature, a lowered or elevated pressure, a phase change, an adsorbing surface, a catalyst, an energy input, and combinations thereof.

18. An instrument for determining a score specifying a series of energy inputs having a physical effect on a target composition, the instrument comprising:

a modeling tool that;

computationally determines resonant properties of the target composition based on its molecular structure; and

identifies a series of energy inputs expected to selectively resonate resonant structures of the target composition; and

a score generator that creates a descriptor of the identified series of energy inputs readable by an instrument for applying the identified series of energy inputs to a composition, wherein the descriptor specifies at least one attribute selected from the group consisting of frequency, modulation frequency, phase, amplitude, temporal profile, polarization, direction, and coherence.

19. The instrument of claim 18, wherein the identified series of energy inputs comprises at least 4 energy inputs.

20. The instrument of claim 18, wherein the identified series of energy inputs comprises at least 10 energy inputs.

21. The instrument of claim 18, wherein the identified series of energy inputs comprises at least 36 energy inputs.

22. The instrument of claim 18, wherein the identified series of energy inputs are expected to selectively resonate the resonant structures of the target composition when the energy inputs of the series are applied simultaneously.

23. The instrument of claim 18, wherein the identified series of energy inputs are expected to selectively resonate the resonant structures of the target composition when the energy inputs of the series are applied sequentially.

24. The instrument of claim 18, wherein the identified series of energy inputs are expected to selectively resonate the resonant structures of the target composition when the energy inputs of the series are applied in a temporally overlapping manner.

25. The instrument of claim 18, wherein identifying a series of energy inputs expected to selectively resonate resonant structures of the target composition comprises determining the response of the resonant structures to a field applied to the target composition.

26. The instrument of claim 25, wherein the field is selected from the group consisting of an electric field, a magnetic field, an electromagnetic field, a mechanical stress, a mechanical strain, a lowered or elevated temperature, a lowered or elevated pressure, a phase change, an adsorbing surface, a catalyst, an energy input, and combinations thereof.
