Abstract

In some embodiments, an apparatus and a system, as well as a method and an article, may include receiving shunt current in one or more conductors according to a sensed component of power distributed by the conductors through one or more transformers coupled to the conductors and determined by an inductance associated with the transformers and a capacitance associated with the conductors.

Claims

1. An apparatus, comprising:

a first transformer; and

a conductor to couple to a primary winding of the first transformer to receive shunt current determined by an inductance associated with the first transformer and a capacitance associated with the conductor according to a sensed component of power distributed by the conductor through the first transformer.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a motor to receive the power from the first transformer.

3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the motor is selected from one of a caliper motor, a coring tool motor, a pump drive motor, or a tractor drive motor.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the sensed component of the power comprises a voltage supplied to a motor.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a switching element to enable conduction in the primary winding of the first transformer.

6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the switching element comprises at least one transistor.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a comparator to couple to the conductor and to receive a signal derived from the sensed component of the power.

8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the signal derived from the sensed component of the power is a voltage to be compared to a preselected voltage.

9. The apparatus of claim 7, further comprising:

a switching element to couple to an output of the comparator and to enable conduction in the primary winding of the first transformer.

10. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a second transformer to couple to the conductor, wherein a primary winding of the second transformer is to couple to an output level control of a power supply to provide the power.

11. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a second transformer to couple to the conductor and to distribute the power in a substantially symmetric manner with the first transformer according to a mode connection of the conductor.

12. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a filter to couple to the primary winding of the first transformer and to filter oscillatory signals derived from the shunt current.

13. A system, comprising:

a tool body;

a first transformer included in the tool body; and

a conductor to couple to a primary winding of the first transformer to receive shunt current determined by an inductance associated with the first transformer and a capacitance associated with the conductor according to a sensed component of power distributed by the conductor through the first transformer.

14. The system of claim 13, further comprising:

a motor to receive the power from the first transformer.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the motor is selected from one of a caliper motor, a coring tool motor, a pump drive motor, or a tractor drive motor.

16. The system of claim 13, wherein the sensed component of the power comprises a voltage supplied to a motor.

17. The system of claim 13, further comprising:

a switching element to enable conduction in the primary winding of the first transformer.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the switching element comprises at least one transistor.

19. The system of claim 13, further comprising:

a comparator to couple to the conductor and to receive a signal derived from the sensed component of the power.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the signal derived from the sensed component of power is a voltage to be compared to a preselected voltage.

21. The system of claim 19, further comprising:

a switching element to couple to an output of the comparator and to enable conduction in the primary winding of the first transformer.

22. The system of claim 13, further comprising:

a second transformer to couple to the conductor, wherein a primary winding of the second transformer is to couple to an output level control of a power supply to provide the power.

23. The system of claim 13, further comprising:

a second transformer to couple to the conductor and to distribute the power in a substantially symmetric manner with the first transformer according to a mode connection of the conductor.

24. The system of claim 13, further comprising:

a filter to couple to the primary winding of the first transformer and to filter oscillatory signals derived from the shunt current.

25. The system of claim 13, further comprising:

a data transmitter coupled to the conductor.

26. A method, comprising:

receiving shunt current in a conductor according to a sensed component of power distributed by the conductor through a transformer coupled to the conductor and determined by an inductance associated with the transformer and a capacitance associated with the conductor.

31. The method of claim 31, further comprising:

controlling an output level control of a power supply to provide the power using a primary winding of a second transformer coupled to the conductor.

27. The method of claim 31, further comprising:

sensing the sensed component as a voltage across a motor.

28. The method of claim 31, further comprising:

comparing the sensed component to a preselected level.

29. The method of claim 31, further comprising:

enabling conduction in a primary winding of the transformer responsive to sensing an indication, derived from the sensed component, of a voltage greater than a preselected voltage.

30. The method of claim 31, further comprising:

deriving a signal from the sensed component of the power to compare to a preselected level.

32. The method of claim 31, further comprising:

distributing the power in a substantially symmetric manner between the first transformer and a second transformer according to a mode connection of the conductor.

33. An article including a machine-accessible medium having associated information, wherein the information, when accessed, results in a machine performing:

receiving shunt current in a conductor according to a sensed component of power distributed by the conductor through a transformer coupled to the conductor and determined by an inductance associated with the transformer and a capacitance associated with the conductor.

34. The article of claim 33, wherein the information, when accessed, results in the machine performing:

sensing the sensed component as a voltage across a motor.

35. The article of claim 33, wherein the information, when accessed, results in the machine performing:

comparing the sensed component to a preselected power supply level.

36. The article of claim 33, wherein the information, when accessed, results in the machine performing:

enabling conduction in a primary winding of the transformer responsive to sensing an indication, derived from the sensed component, of a voltage greater than a preselected power supply voltage.

37. The article of claim 33, wherein the information, when accessed, results in the machine performing:

controlling an output level control of a power supply to provide the power using a primary winding of a second transformer coupled to the conductor.
