Abstract

A voice-activated user interface for an application is described. The voice activated user interface invokes a speech recognition component to recognize audio input from a user. If the audio input is a command, then a validation component is invoked to determine whether to validate the command prior to execution.

Claims

1. A system for validating computer executable audio commands comprising:

a validation component which is configured to receive a command from a speech recognition component and to determine whether to validate the command based upon a data store of application commands.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein the data store includes a list of destructive commands.

3. The system of claim 2 wherein all of the application commands in the data store are monosyllabic

4. The system of claim 1 wherein the validation component validates the command by invoking a user interface to prompt the user to confirm execution of the command.

5. The system of claim 4 wherein the user interface includes one of an audio prompt or text prompt to confirm implementation of the command.

6. The system of claim 1 wherein the data store includes a list of destructive commands and information relating to instances or applications in which the destructive commands should be validated.

7. The system of claim 1 and further comprising the speech recognition component for recognizing the command from a speech input.

8. A voice activated user interface comprising:

a speech support component capable of invoking a speech recognition component to recognize speech for an audio input command from the user;

a validation component invoked in response to the audio input command to determine whether to validate the audio input command; and

a user interface having an interface element that is selected by the speech support component based upon the audio input command.

9. The voice activated user interface of claim 8 wherein the validation component accesses a data store of application commands to determine whether to validate the audio input command.

10. The voice activated user interface of claim 9 wherein the data store includes a list of destructive commands.

11. The voice activated user interface of claim 10 wherein all of the destructive commands of the data store are monosyllabic.

12. The voice activated user interface of claim 8 wherein the validation component invokes an interface to prompt the user to confirm implementation of the audio input command.

13. The voice activated user interface of claim 8 wherein the speech recognition component uses a grammar of application commands generated from the user interface.

15. The method of claim 13 wherein all of the data store commands are monosyllabic destructive commands.

14. A computer implementable method comprising the steps of:

receiving audio input;

invoking a speech recognition component to recognize a user command from the audio input; and

determining whether to validate the user command based upon a data store of application commands.

16. The method of claim 14 and further comprising the step of:

validating the user command by prompting the user to confirm execution of the user command.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein the prompt is one of an audio or text prompt.

18. The method of claim 14 and further comprising the step of:

inputting a list of application commands into the data store without user input.

19. The method of claim 14 and further comprising the step of:

generating a data store record for an application command based upon feedback from a user.

20. The method of claim 14 and further comprising the step of:

using an application to dynamically populate the data store of application commands.
