Abstract

A method for monitoring a fluorescent light-emitting bead implanted in a user'"'"'s body includes removably adhering an adhesive plate of a kinematic adhesive fluorescence measurement patch to a user'"'"'s body. The method also includes attaching an optical plate of the kinematic adhesive fluorescence measurement patch to the adhered adhesive plate in a kinematic manner such that the optical plate is in operative alignment with the fluorescent light-emitting bead and, thereafter, monitoring the fluorescent light-emitting bead by emitting incident light from the light emitter and detecting fluorescent light emitted from the fluorescent light-emitting bead with the light detector. In addition, the method optionally includes detaching the optical plate from the adhered adhesive plate and reattaching the optical plate in a kinematic manner.

Claims

1. A method for monitoring a fluorescent light-emitting bead implanted in a user'"'"'s body, the method comprising:

removably adhering an adhesive plate of a kinematic adhesive fluorescence measurement patch to a user'"'"'s body, wherein the kinematic adhesive fluorescence measurement patch includes;

the adhesive plate; and

an optical plate that includes;

a rigid member;

a light emitter attached to the rigid member, the light emitter configured for emitting light that is absorbed by the fluorescent light-emitting bead; and

a light detector attached to the member, the light detector configured for detecting fluorescent light emitted by the fluorescent light-emitting bead;

attaching the optical plate to the adhered adhesive plate in a kinematic manner such that the optical plate is in operative alignment with the fluorescent light-emitting bead;

monitoring the fluorescent light-emitting bead. by emitting incident light from the light emitter and detecting fluorescent light emitted from the fluorescent light-emitting bead with the light detector.

The method of claim 1, wherein the attaching in a kinematic manner is achieved via a cone-shaped indent, a slot-shaped indent, and a flat surface independently disposed on a first surface of one of the adhesive plate and the optical plate in opposing relationship to a first spherical component, a second spherical component and a third spherical component, respectively, disposed on an opposing surface of another of the adhesive plate and the optical plate.

3. The method of claim 1 further including:

detaching the optical plate from the adhesive plate; and

reattaching the optical plate to the adhesive plate in a kinematic manner.

The method of claim 3, wherein the reattaching in a kinematic manner is via a cone-shaped indent, a slot-shaped indent, and a flat surface independently disposed on a first surface of one of the adhesive plate and the optical plate in opposing relationship to a first spherical component, a second spherical component and a third spherical component, respectively, disposed on an opposing surface of another of the adhesive plate and the optical plate.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the monitoring step includes emitting incident light of at a wavelength of 525 nm.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the monitoring step includes detecting a characteristic of the fluorescent light that varies as a function of bodily fluid analyte concentration.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the bodily fluid analyte concentration is blood glucose concentration.
