Abstract

A current applying electrode is placed on at least one body part which is highly useful in estimating a subcutaneous fat tissue volume on the truncal abdominal circumference, the other current applying electrode is placed on a body part protruding from the trunk, a voltage measuring electrode is placed in the vicinity of the one current applying electrode on the truncal abdominal circumference, and the other voltage measuring electrode is placed on a body part protruding from the trunk which is different from the body part on which the other current applying electrode is placed, to measure the impedance of the trunk so as to acquire the subcutaneous fat tissue layer information of the trunk. A shared electrode serving as a current applying electrode out of a current applying electrode pair and a voltage measuring electrode out of a voltage measuring electrode pair and having a wide electrode area is placed on the trunk and the other current applying electrode and the other voltage measuring electrode are placed on the extremities to measure the impedance of the trunk.

Claims

1. A truncal visceral/subcutaneous fat measuring method which comprises the steps of:

applying a current to a trunk from a pair of current applying electrodes,

measuring a potential difference that has occurred in the trunk by a pair of voltage measuring electrodes, and

measuring the impedance of the trunk to acquire the visceral fat tissue information and/or subcutaneous fat tissue layer information of the trunk,

wherein

one of the current applying electrodes is placed on the trunk, and the other current applying electrode is placed on a body part protruding from the trunk.

3. The truncal visceral/subcutaneous fat measuring method of claim 1,

wherein

one of the current applying electrodes is placed on at least one body part which is highly useful in estimating a subcutaneous fat tissue volume on the truncal abdominal circumference,

the other current applying electrode is placed on a body part protruding from the trunk,

one of the voltage measuring electrodes is placed in the vicinity of the one current applying electrode on the truncal abdominal circumference, and

the other voltage measuring electrode is placed on a body part protruding from the trunk that is different from the body part on which the other current applying electrode is placed,

to measure the impedance of the trunk so as to acquire the subcutaneous fat tissue layer information of the trunk.

5. The truncal visceral/subcutaneous fat measuring method of claim 1, which comprises the steps of:

measuring the bioelectrical impedance of a lower extremity, the bioelectrical impedance of an upper extremity, and the bioelectrical impedance of a trunk,

determining the skeletal muscle tissue volume of the lower extremity based on the measured bioelectrical impedance of the lower extremity and body specifying information,

determining the skeletal muscle tissue volume of the upper extremity based on the measured bioelectrical impedance of the upper extremity and the body specifying information,

determining the skeletal muscle tissue volume of the trunk based on the determined skeletal muscle tissue volumes of the lower and upper extremities and the body specifying information,

determining the impedance of the skeletal muscle tissue layer of the trunk based on the determined skeletal muscle tissue volume of the trunk and the body specifying information,

determining the impedance of the subcutaneous fat tissue layer of the trunk,

determining the impedance of the splanchnic organ tissue of the trunk based on the body specifying information,

determining the impedance of the visceral fat tissue of the trunk based on the determined bioelectrical impedance of the trunk, the determined impedance of the skeletal muscle tissue layer of the trunk, the determined impedance of the subcutaneous fat tissue layer of the trunk, and the determined impedance of the splanchnic organ tissue of the trunk, and

determining the visceral fat tissue volume of the trunk based on the determined impedance of the visceral fat tissue of the trunk and the body specifying information,

wherein

in the step of determining the impedance of the subcutaneous fat tissue layer of the trunk, one of the current applying electrodes is placed on at least one body part which is highly useful in estimating a subcutaneous fat tissue volume on the truncal abdominal circumference, the other current applying electrode is placed on a body part protruding from the trunk, one of the voltage measuring electrodes is placed in the vicinity of the one current applying electrode on the truncal abdominal circumference, and the other voltage measuring electrode is placed on a body part protruding from the trunk that is different from the body part on which the other current applying electrode is placed, so as to determine the impedance of the subcutaneous fat tissue layer of the trunk.

8. The truncal visceral/subcutaneous fat measuring method of claim 1,

wherein

a shared electrode having a wide electrode area and serving as one of the current applying electrodes and one of the voltage measuring electrodes is provided, and

the impedance of the trunk is measured by placing the shared electrode on the trunk and placing the other current applying electrode and the other voltage measuring electrode on body parts which are useful for measurements.

A truncal visceral/subcutaneous fat measuring apparatus which comprises a pair of current applying electrodes for applying a current to a trunk and a pair of voltage measuring electrodes for measuring a potential difference that has occurred in the trunk and which acquires the visceral fat tissue information and/or subcutaneous fat tissue layer information of the trunk by measuring the impedance of the trunk,

wherein

one of the current applying electrodes is placed on the trunk, and the other current applying electrode is placed on a body part protruding from the trunk.

4. The truncal visceral/subcutaneous fat measuring apparatus of claim 2, which comprises:

at least a pair of current applying electrodes that comprise one current applying electrode that is placed on at least one body part that is highly useful in estimating a subcutaneous fat tissue volume on the truncal abdominal circumference and the other current applying electrode that is placed on a body part protruding from the trunk, and

at least a pair of voltage measuring electrodes that comprise one voltage measuring electrode that is placed in the vicinity of the one current applying electrode on the truncal abdominal circumference and the other voltage measuring electrode that is placed on a body part protruding from the trunk that is different from the body part on which the other current applying electrode is placed, and

which acquires the subcutaneous fat tissue layer information of the trunk by measuring the impedance of the trunk.

6. The truncal visceral/subcutaneous fat measuring apparatus of claim 2, which comprises:

lower-extremity bioelectrical impedance measuring means,

upper-extremity bioelectrical impedance measuring means,

trunk bioelectrical impedance measuring means,

lower-extremity skeletal muscle tissue volume estimating means,

upper-extremity skeletal muscle tissue volume estimating means,

trunk skeletal muscle tissue volume estimating means,

trunk skeletal muscle tissue layer impedance estimating means,

trunk subcutaneous fat tissue layer impedance estimating means,

trunk splanchnic organ tissue impedance estimating means,

trunk visceral fat tissue impedance estimating means, and

trunk visceral fat tissue volume estimating means,

wherein

the lower-extremity bioelectrical impedance measuring means measures the bioelectrical impedance of a lower extremity,

the upper-extremity bioelectrical impedance measuring means measures the bioelectrical impedance of an upper extremity,

the trunk bioelectrical impedance measuring means measures the bioelectrical impedance of a trunk,

the lower-extremity skeletal muscle tissue volume estimating means estimates the skeletal muscle tissue volume of the lower extremity based on the measured bioelectrical impedance of the lower extremity and body specifying information,

the upper-extremity skeletal muscle tissue volume estimating means estimates the skeletal muscle tissue volume of the upper extremity based on the measured bioelectrical impedance of the upper extremity and the body specifying information,

the trunk skeletal muscle tissue volume estimating means estimates the skeletal muscle tissue volume of the trunk based on the estimated skeletal muscle tissue volumes of the lower and upper extremities and the body specifying information,

the trunk skeletal muscle tissue layer impedance estimating means estimates the impedance of the skeletal muscle tissue layer of the trunk based on the estimated skeletal muscle tissue volume of the trunk and the body specifying information,

the trunk subcutaneous fat tissue layer impedance estimating means estimates the impedance of the subcutaneous fat tissue layer of the trunk,

the trunk splanchnic organ tissue impedance estimating means estimates the impedance of the splanchnic organ tissue of the trunk based on the body specifying information,

the trunk visceral fat tissue impedance estimating means estimates the impedance of the visceral fat tissue of the trunk based on the estimated bioelectrical impedance of the trunk,

the estimated impedance of the skeletal muscle tissue layer of the trunk, the estimated impedance of the subcutaneous fat tissue layer of the trunk, and the estimated impedance of the splanchnic organ tissue of the trunk, and

the trunk visceral fat tissue volume estimating means estimates the visceral fat tissue volume of the trunk based on the estimated impedance of the visceral fat tissue of the trunk and the body specifying information,

wherein

the trunk subcutaneous fat tissue layer impedance estimating means comprises at least a pair of current applying electrodes that comprise one current applying electrode that is placed on at least one body part that is highly useful in estimating a subcutaneous fat tissue volume on the truncal abdominal circumference and the other current applying electrode that is placed on a body part protruding from the trunk and at least a pair of voltage measuring electrodes that comprise one voltage measuring electrode that is placed in the vicinity of the one current applying electrode on the truncal abdominal circumference and the other voltage measuring electrode that is placed on a body part protruding from the trunk that is different from the body part on which the other current applying electrode is placed, and estimates the impedance of the subcutaneous fat tissue layer of the trunk.

7. The truncal visceral/subcutaneous fat measuring apparatus of claim 2, which comprises:

lower-extremity bioelectrical impedance measuring means,

upper-extremity bioelectrical impedance measuring means,

trunk bioelectrical impedance measuring means,

trunk skeletal muscle tissue volume estimating means,

trunk skeletal muscle tissue layer impedance estimating means,

trunk subcutaneous fat tissue layer impedance estimating means,

trunk splanchnic organ tissue impedance estimating means,

trunk visceral fat tissue impedance estimating means, and

trunk visceral fat tissue volume estimating means,

wherein

the lower-extremity bioelectrical impedance measuring means measures the bioelectrical impedance of a lower extremity,

the upper-extremity bioelectrical impedance measuring means measures the bioelectrical impedance of an upper extremity,

the trunk bioelectrical impedance measuring means measures the bioelectrical impedance of a trunk,

the trunk skeletal muscle tissue volume estimating means estimates the skeletal muscle tissue volume of the trunk based on the measured bioelectrical impedances of the lower and upper extremities and body specifying information,

the trunk skeletal muscle tissue layer impedance estimating means estimates the impedance of the skeletal muscle tissue layer of the trunk based on the estimated skeletal muscle tissue volume of the trunk and the body specifying information,

the trunk subcutaneous fat tissue layer impedance estimating means estimates the impedance of the subcutaneous fat tissue layer of the trunk,

the trunk splanchnic organ tissue impedance estimating means estimates the impedance of the splanchnic organ tissue of the trunk based on the body specifying information,

the trunk visceral fat tissue impedance estimating means estimates the impedance of the visceral fat tissue of the trunk based on the estimated bioelectrical impedance of the trunk, the estimated impedance of the skeletal muscle tissue layer of the trunk, the estimated impedance of the subcutaneous fat tissue layer of the trunk, and the estimated impedance of the splanchnic organ tissue of the trunk, and

the trunk visceral fat tissue volume estimating means estimates the visceral fat tissue volume of the trunk based on the estimated impedance of the visceral fat tissue of the trunk and the body specifying information,

wherein

the trunk subcutaneous fat tissue layer impedance estimating means comprises at least a pair of current applying electrodes that comprise one current applying electrode that is placed on at least one body part that is highly useful in estimating a subcutaneous fat tissue volume on the truncal abdominal circumference and the other current applying electrode that is placed on a body part protruding from the trunk and at least a pair of voltage measuring electrodes that comprise one voltage measuring electrode that is placed in the vicinity of the one current applying electrode on the truncal abdominal circumference and the other voltage measuring electrode that is placed on a body part protruding from the trunk that is different from the body part on which the other current applying electrode is placed, and estimates the impedance of the subcutaneous fat tissue layer of the trunk.

9. The truncal visceral/subcutaneous fat measuring apparatus of claim 2,

wherein

a shared electrode having a wide electrode area and serving as one of the current applying electrodes and one of the voltage measuring electrodes is placed on the trunk, and the other current applying electrode and the other voltage measuring electrode are placed on body parts which are useful for measurements.
