Abstract

Methods and systems for extracting and adapting data are set forth. According to one embodiment, a method comprising determining a schema for an item, wherein the schema contains one or more elements corresponding to attributes of the item, identifying a first web page containing information about the item, populating the elements of the schema based at least in part on the information about the item; formatting data comprising one or more of the schema elements for display on a second web page, receiving input from a user on the second web page indicating a desired transaction with the item, determining a method schema for the desired transaction, populating the method schema based at least in part on the input on the second web page, and using the method schema to facilitate the transaction on a third web page, wherein the third web page is on a different website than the first web page is disclosed.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

determining a schema for an item, wherein the schema contains one or more elements corresponding to attributes of the item;

identifying a first web page containing information about the item;

populating the elements of the schema based at least in part on the information about the item;

configuring data comprising one or more of the schema elements for display on a second web page;

receiving input from a user on the second web page indicating a desired transaction with the item;

determining a method schema for the desired transaction;

populating the method schema based at least in part on the input on the second web page;

using the method schema to facilitate the transaction on a third web page, wherein the third web page is on a different website than the second web page.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first web page and the third web page are the same.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first web page and the third web page are a retailer'"'"'s web page and the second web page is a supplier'"'"'s web page.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the transaction comprises purchasing the item.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein identifying the first web page comprises using an intelligent searching method.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the intelligent searching method comprises

identifying a search field for searching a first set of web pages;

and

executing a search to identify a relevant sub set of web pages likely to contain information about the product.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein populating the schema comprises accessing a dictionary containing one or more of schema element values or identifier characters.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the identifier characters comprise one or more of a trademark, currency symbol, abbreviation, proper name, brand name, or formatting pattern.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising populating the schema with additional information not included on the first web page.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein facilitating the transaction on a third web pages comprises one or more of creating a session on the third web page and placing the items in a shopping cart associated with the third web page.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the transaction is completed while the user remains in direct communication only with the second web page.

12. A method for transferring a transaction to a retail web site, comprising:

displaying information about a product on a supplier'"'"'s page;

receiving input identifying a desired transaction with the product;

determining a method schema corresponding to the desired transaction;

facilitating completion of the transaction on a retailer'"'"'s web page based at least in part on the method schema.

13. A method for populating a product schema, comprising:

determining a schema, wherein the schema contains one or more elements identifying properties of an item;

identifying a network document containing information about the item;

populating one or more schema elements with the information contained in the network document;

identifying unpopulated elements in the schema;

identifying a second source of information about the item; and

populating one or more of the unpopulated elements based on the second source of information.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein identifying a document containing information about the item comprises executing a search on a website in which the first network document is contained for keywords associated with the item and filtering a list of search results to obtain a set of documents containing item information.

15. A method, comprising:

determining a schema for an item, wherein the schema contains one or more elements corresponding to attributes of the item;

identifying a first web page containing information about the item;

populating the elements of the schema based at least in part on the information about the item;

determining a method schema for a method available on a second web page; and

providing access to the item schema and the method schema to a developer for providing content and facilitating a transaction on a third web page.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising gathering usage data associated with the third web page.
