Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention include systems and methods that relate to pulse oximetry. Specifically, one embodiment includes an oximeter sensor comprising a light emitting element configured to emit light, a light detector configured to receive the light, and an accelerometer configured to detect motion of the oximeter sensor.

Claims

1. An oximeter sensor, comprising:

a light emitting element configured to emit light;

a light detector configured to receive the light; and

an accelerometer configured to detect motion of the oximeter sensor.

2. The oximeter sensor of claim 1, comprising an alarm mechanism configured to indicate the presence of a designated amount of motion detected by the accelerometer.

3. The oximeter sensor of claim 1, comprising a memory storing an algorithm for correcting physio-optic effects from motion detected by the accelerometer.

4. The oximeter sensor of claim 2, comprising a suspend mechanism configured to suspend operation of the oximeter sensor when a designated amount of motion is detected by the accelerometer.

5. An oximeter system, comprising:

an oximeter sensor comprising;

a light emitting element configured to emit light;

a light detector configured to receive the light; and

an accelerometer configured to detect motion of the oximeter sensor;

and

a monitor communicatively coupleable with the sensor, the monitor configured to receive information from the sensor.

6. The oximeter system of claim 5, wherein the oximeter sensor comprises an alarm mechanism configured to indicate the presence of a designated amount of motion detected by the accelerometer.

7. The oximeter system of claim 5, comprising a sensor memory storing an algorithm configured to correct physio-optic effects from motion detected by the accelerometer.

8. The oximeter system of claim 5, wherein the monitor comprises a suspend mechanism configured to suspend operation of the oximeter system when a designated amount of motion is detected by the accelerometer.

9. An oximeter monitor, comprising:

a drive circuit configured to provide signals to circuitry of an oximeter sensor; and

a circuit configured to receive information from an accelerometer of the oximeter sensor, the information relating to motion of the oximeter sensor.

10. The monitor of claim 9, comprising an alarm mechanism configured to indicate the presence of a designated amount of motion detected by the accelerometer.

11. A method of monitor operation, comprising:

providing signals to circuitry of an oximeter sensor; and

receiving information from an accelerometer of the oximeter sensor, the information relating to motion of the oximeter sensor.

12. The method of claim 11, comprising indicating the presence of a designated amount of motion detected by the accelerometer with accelerometer data.

15. The method of claim 11, comprising storing an algorithm for correcting physio-optic effects from motion detected by the accelerometer in a sensor memory.

16. The method of claim 11, comprising suspending operation of the oximeter sensor when a designated amount of motion is detected by the accelerometer.

13. A method of oximeter sensor operation, comprising:

projecting light from a light emitting element;

receiving the light with a light detector; and

detecting motion of the oximeter sensor with an accelerometer component of the oximeter sensor.

14. The method of claim 13, comprising indicating the presence of a designated amount of motion detected by the accelerometer with accelerometer data.

17. A method of manufacturing an oximeter sensor, comprising:

providing a light emitting element configured to emit light;

providing a light detector configured to receive the light; and

providing an accelerometer configured to detect motion of the oximeter sensor.

18. The method of claim 17, comprising providing an alarm mechanism configured to indicate the presence of a designated amount of motion detected by the accelerometer.

19. The method of claim 17, comprising providing a memory storing an algorithm for correcting physio-optic effects from motion detected by the accelerometer.

20. The method of claim 17, comprising providing a suspend mechanism configured to suspend operation of the oximeter sensor when a designated amount of motion is detected by the accelerometer.
