Infusion Device
First Claim
1. An infusion device comprising:
- a body having a body passageway;
a cannula having a portion extending from the body, the cannula also having a cannula passageway defined by a cannula passageway wall, the cannula passageway wall having an inwardly-tapered portion that will be above a patient'"'"'s skin when the infusion device is used, the cannula passageway having a cannula passageway end positioned outside the body, the cannula passageway end having a width, a septum positioned within the body passageway, the septum having a septum top surface that includes a septum top surface portion accessible to an injection needle, the septum top surface portion having a septum cross-section positioned perpendicular to an axis that is centered in the body passageway, the septum cross-section having a greatest width that is greater than the width of the cannula passageway end; and
an inner surface that directly borders open space within the body passageway that is downstream of the septum and upstream of the inwardly-tapered cannula passageway wall portion, the inner surface defining a first inner surface perimeter positioned in a first plane that is perpendicular to the axis, the inner surface also defining a second inner surface perimeter positioned in a second plane that is parallel to and downstream of the first plane, the first inner surface perimeter defining a first cross-sectional area, the second inner surface perimeter defining a second cross-sectional area, and the first cross-sectional area being greater than the second cross-sectional area;
the infusion device being configured such that (a) a first portion of the infusion device is above the patient'"'"'s skin surface when the infusion device is used and (b) a second portion of the infusion device is beneath the patient'"'"'s skin surface when the device is used, the first portion having a first portion height measured along the axis, the second portion having a second portion height measured along the axis, the second portion height being greater than the fist portion height.

Abstract
The disclosures made herein relate to an infusion device specifically adapted for syringe injections. In one embodiment of the disclosures made herein, an infusion device comprises a body including an accessible surface having a single inlet port therein, an engagement surface having a single outlet port therein, a medication delivery channel extending between the single inlet port and the single outlet port, and an identification feature on the accessible surface of the body adjacent to the single inlet port. The single inlet port of the medication delivery channel is tapered thereby forming a funnel-shaped entry into the medication delivery channel. A cannula is coupled to the body at the single outlet port and is adapted for receiving medication from the single outlet port and transmitting the medication therethrough.
