Method of detecting the presence of insults in an absorbent article
First Claim
1. A method of detecting and communicating to a caregiver and/or a wearer the presence of an insult within an absorbent article, said method comprising:
- monitoring an electrical property of the article as the article is being worn by the wearer;
determining the electrical property of the article at a first time, the electrical property being expressed as a first indicator value;
activating an insult alarm to inform the caregiver and/or the wearer of the presence of an insult in the article when the first indicator value is indicative of an insult;
determining the electrical property of the article after activating the insult alarm, the electrical property being expressed as a second indicator value;
determining the second indicator value is indicative of the presence of a second insult within the article;
determining the amount of time that elapsed between the activation of the alarm and the determination of the indication of the presence of the second insult;
comparing the elapsed time to a time threshold value and activating either an insult alarm or a saturation alarm as a function of the comparison.

Abstract
A method of determining the presence of an insult in an absorbent article is disclosed. The amount of time that elapses between the activation of an alarm and the determination of the presence of a subsequent insult is determined. This elapsed time is compared to a time threshold value and either an insult alarm or a saturation alarm is activated as a function of the comparison. After activation of the alarm for an alarm period, the electrical property of the article is determined at a second time occurring at least a preset period after the end of the alarm period to allow the electrical property to stabilize before determining the electrical property.
