Abstract

A system and algorithms to authenticate a person where a system only has some standard personal text data about the person, and cannot have a real biometric template obtained using an enrollment procedure. The authentication allows access to restricted resources by the person. This method is especially useful when it is used as an auxiliary authentication service with other methods such as password or Callback that dramatically lower the chances for an imposter.

Claims

1. A method for authenticating a user comprising:

receiving a biometric input from said user;

extracting at least one personal biometric identifier from said biometric input;

comparing said at least one personal biometric identifier to corresponding personal information of said user;

authenticating said user based on said comparison,

wherein said personal information does not contain biometric template.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

extracting at least one personal biometric qualifier from said biometric input;

determining a score value for said at least one personal biometric qualifier relative to a level of matching of said qualifier to an investigated personal feature of said user;

wherein said step of authenticating is based also on said determined qualification score.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein said step of matching is done according to a set of predefined rules.

4. The method of claim 2 wherein said personal feature is at least one of age, gender, ethnical or geographical origin, pronunciation, emotional state of the user, credibility level and level of alcohol or other materials in blood.

5. The method of claim 2 wherein said step of adapting is done based on a probability of said extracted personal biometric qualifier to fall within a range of values of said investigated personal feature.

6. A method for qualifying a user comprising:

receiving a biometric input from said user;

extracting at least one personal biometric qualifier from said biometric input;

adapting a score value to said at least one personal biometric qualifier relative to a level of matching of said qualifier to an investigated personal feature of said user.

7. A system for authenticating a user comprising:

at least one biometric sensor to receive biometric input of said user;

at least one extraction unit to extract at least one biometric identifier from said biometric input during an authentication session;

a storage unit to store at least one personal information record;

at least one authentication unit to authenticate said user based on comparison of said at least one extracted biometric identifier to a corresponding value in said personal information record.

an access control management unit to control the access of said user to at least one restricted resource based on the result of said authentication unit.

8. The system of claim 7 further comprising:

at least one extraction unit to extract at least one personal biometric qualifier during said authentication session;

a user qualification unit to determine a qualification score value for said at least one personal biometric qualifier relative to a level of matching of said qualifier to an investigated personal feature of said user;

wherein said access control management unit controls the access of said user to at least one restricted resource based also on the value of said qualification score.

9. The system of claim 8 wherein said storage unit is also capable of storing at least one rule of qualification.

10. The system of claim 8 wherein said personal feature is at least one of age, gender, ethnical or geographical origin, pronunciation, emotional state of the user, credibility level and level of alcohol or other materials in blood.

11. The system of claim 8 wherein said qualification unit is capable of determining said qualification score value based on a probability of said extracted personal biometric qualifier to fall within a range of values of said investigated personal feature.

12. A system for qualifying a user comprising:

at least one biometric sensor to receive biometric input of said user;

at least one extraction unit to extract at least one personal biometric qualifier from said biometric input during an authentication session;

a user qualification unit to determine a qualification score value for said at least one personal biometric qualifier relative to a level of matching of said qualifier to an investigated personal feature of said user; and

an access control management unit to control the access of said user to at least one restricted resource based on the result of said qualification unit.
