1. A method comprising:
- receiving a compressed video object;
decompressing the compressed video object;
determining a digital watermark signal for the decompressed video object, but instead of embedding a determined digital watermark signal in the decompressed video object, compressing the digital watermark signal as an object; and
associating the digital watermark object and the compressed video object.

Abstract
The present invention relates to digital watermarking systems and methods. In a first implementation, so-called movie studio rough-cuts are watermarked to provide a forensic tracking clue or to provide security for distributed rough-cuts. In another implementation, a watermark is determined for a compressed video object. The watermark is compressed as an object and the watermarked object is then associated with the compressed video object. The two separate objects are provided to a rendering device, which after decompressing both objects, embeds the watermark in the video prior to rendering.

9. A method comprising:
-
providing video content, wherein the video content comprises a digital watermark embedded therein, with multiple instances of the digital watermark embedded in the video content, the digital watermark further comprising a plural-bit identifier that is uniquely associated with an intended recipient of the video content;
encrypting the video content with an encryption key that comprises mathematical relationship to the plural-bit identifier that is uniquely associated with the intended recipient of the video content;
providing a decryption key that comprises a cryptographic relationship to the encryption key;
providing the encrypted video content and the decryption key to the intended user of the video content; and
maintaining a registry that associates at least the plural-bit identifier with the intended recipient. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18)
